The day started off with Imagina Gastronomia - a downtown activation being coordinated between Creative Collective MA and TDI/Mass Development. It was a delicious start to the day with food vendors, live music by Brandon Falls and Lone Sol, food tours through local restaurants (El Taller, Lu’s Cafe & Bakery, Blue Lounge & Grill, VAka Restaurant, and Casabe Fruit Store & Delicatessen), a cooking demo by Chef Antonio of Cafe Azteca and a live recording of local podcast Food For Thought With Felipe! I couldn’t leave Lawrence yesterday without stopping with Mayor Kendrys Vasquez at two incredible small businesses who know what it takes to succeed during the pandemic and beyond! El Taller is a major community hub here in the city, especially for young people and artists. Owner Mary O'Brien Guerrero knows how important the café is to the community, which is why she accessed COVID-19 relief to stay open and keep paying her workers! Also stopped at Lu’s Cafe & Bakery, which opened right before the pandemic and serves as an example for success during COVID-19. This AAPI-owned and operated small business continues to give back to the community by partnering with great organizations like Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc! Also great to run into the incredible Representative Christina Minicucci during our visit!
