For all of you who have been patiently waiting, and some who insist they have a right to know, we are soon approaching the 2 year anniversary of the fire that devastated our lives and our future. It has been challenging and at times a difficult road of decision making. We can reassure you that our interactions have always been directed towards the reopening of the bakery that has been a staple in Latrobe over the past 74 years! We are in the final phase of that decision making of this process and that is that of the bidding of the project and if we can afford to bring back our hopes of reopening. We thank all of you again for your patience and support. β£οΈπŸ™

Hello Latrobe! The moment you have all been patiently waiting for has come. This week, demolition started on Dainty Pastry Shoppe. It has started at the back of the building and is being taken down in steps in order to contain the debris and be courteous to our neighbors and the traffic. There is one section of the bakery that will be staying but the rest will come down along with the apartment building next door. Once everything is cleaned up, construction will begin. While we don't have an exact date just yet, we are working hard to keep this moving as quickly as possible. Fresh baked bread will be wafting through the air soon!

We want to hear from you, the customer, about what you are looking for when Dainty Pastry Shoppe reopens.

For example, do you want us to have lunch items, grab and go options, have more drink choices, or outdoor seating? Tell us what you would like to see. We are all ears!

Giving up on sweets for lent this year? Well for the first time in 75 years Dainty Pastry Shoppe can help with that choice. As we will remain closed through lent.

All jokes aside, we miss all our customers and we are saddened that we cannot provide paczki and fish buns this season.

Our goal is to open Dainty Pastry Shoppe and get back to serving our community and beyond. This process is long and slow, but not a day goes by that we aren’t talking about the future. We will continue to keep you informed on our progress.

As the new year approaches, we reflect on 2021. We are so grateful for everything and everyone in our lives. We know things happen for a reason and God has a bigger and better plan for all of us. We, as a business and as individuals, are so blessed to have so much support surrounding us. It is with that support we push forward into the new year with hope and excitement.

We want to thank each and every one of you for the support you've shown to Dainty Pastry Shoppe since 1947. And we look forward to the support you will give us in 2022. We hope all of you have a wonderful week and embrace all the blessings the year has brought. We look forward to seeing you all back inside the bakery in 2022!

Each year starting in the mid 80's, we would run a Christmas ad in the newspaper of a handwritten note to Santa telling him all of the delicious pastries we would like him to bring! It started with the first grandchild and then continued every few years with the addition of each grandchild after that. While we all chose different paths in our careers, this crew still helps out around the holidays and throughout the year. Introducing, the 4th generation of the Colaianne family. Just like the advertisements, we'll list them in order ;) Amanda, Blake, Curtis, Joey and Kaitlyn!

We left our cookies a little too long in the oven this year πŸ˜…πŸͺπŸŽ„ but we can’t wait to see you next Christmas! In the meantime, what are your favorite holiday cookies?

And, in keeping with the theme, enjoy some old photos of the third generation of the Colaianne family.

Hello Latrobe! As we begin to get into the holiday season, we wanted to give you all an update. Of course, this will be a very different season for the Colaianne family and Dainty Pastry Shoppe. We will miss the long hours, smell of pumpkin pie and gingerbread and of course, a couple of arguments among family πŸ˜‰!!

Anyone who has ever dealt with this type of situation knows what a very long process it takes. We have been in contact with the insurance, structural engineers, restoration companies and contractors to see what our next steps are. In the meantime, a lot of work has gone into cleaning out the bakery from momentos to smoke damaged items. While it is taking a long time, we are moving in the right direction and appreciate your patience. We will be sure to keep you updated in the near future on the progress. We miss you all and greatly appreciate the support that has been given to us.

In the meantime, here are a couple of throwback pictures of some of the second generation of the Colaianne family. Bob Colaianne, Ermita (Colaianne) Carrarini and Mary (Colaianne) DePree
