Rick and I were honored to judge the 2022 Eastern Idaho State Fair Eastern Idaho Sugar Art Show. Our Best in Show award went to local cake artist Yulia Ryabokon of Sweetmastery. We fell in love with the artistry and composition of her Brothers Grimm themed sculpted cake which integrated multiple fairy tales on one cake. This talented cake artist is from Ukraine and it was her first Best in Show win. We suspect it won’t be her last! Congratulations, Yulia! 🍰
It was the immaculate detailing of these handpainted cookies by Confections Bakery that instantly caught our eye at the Eastern Idaho Sugar Art Show Rick and I awarded these artful decorated bug cookies the prestigious Judges Choice award! Congratulations, Nathan Chandler!
Trina won the coveted 2022 Decorators Choice award at the Eastern Idaho Sugar Art Show! Her peers voted her Tattoo cake their favorite in the show. Rick and I scored Trina high in all categories for her gorgeous decorated Tattoo themed fondant wedding cake. She really impressed us with her painting skills and lovely handmade roses and artwork. Rick loves to paint and did a live demonstration of Van Gogh’s starry night in painted buttercream at the Eastern Idaho State Fair Sugar Art Show last week. We were delighted to meet Cherry Pie in person at the Dog Show in Pahrump! Rick carefully studied photos of her before sculpting a cake in her likeness. Our client was absolutely thrilled with her cake and said it looked exactly like Cherry Pie - the ultimate compliment! The cake had a captive audience at the dog show! We have an English Cocker Spaniel that we adore - they are such sweet dogs! Rick had a blast making Cherry Pie!
When you need a special gift for company royalty, a jeweled crown cake is the perfect way to go! Our client surprised the CEO of Calyx Containers with a sculpted crown cake when they were all here in Vegas for the MJ Biz convention.Rick made the crown cake in the company’s colors, with handmade pot leaves and jewels like their logo. The cake was a huge hit!
The learning curve was so high on this crazy cake! We never played the online game League of Legends and had no idea who Baron Nashor was when Grace and Amery asked Rick to make a 3 foot tall sculpted cake for their wedding. Like many couples during Covid, they postponed their wedding a long time to safely celebrate with their guests. We wanted to make sure they got the best cake we could give them! Rick studied this beast from every angle and made an elaborate structure that could support Baron's massive head! The cake was a huge success - our couple loved it and it was so worth the wait!
One of Rick's newest cakes was a sculpted watch box cake of a limited edition designer "Las Vegas Strip" watch. This special surprise was a gift from our client to her boyfriend during his game time birthday party at Stadium Swim. The box was challenging for Rick to make due to it's open position and thick lid, but he felt this presentation was best and I totally agreed. The amazed reaction of our client, her boyfriend, and their party guests was worth the effort!
Rick's sculpted turntable cakes have been well requested by our musician and DJ clients over the years. His latest turntable was made for MokaBlast 💔, a rapper, singer and songwriter in honor of his birthday and brand new album. We heard the cake was a big hit with Moka and his party guests!
Let's Go Crazy! Rick pulled out all the stops for Rob's Prince themed 50th birthday cake. He made all the artwork including the "Mad Cat" guitar and the flying doves. We grew up in the '80s and have many Prince memories! We were teenagers when we saw "Purple Rain. Prince's songs (1999, Little Red Corvette, Let's go Crazy, and yes, Erotic City) were played at our high school dances. We remember when Prince became the Artist Formerly Known as Prince, and then as a famous symbol. Those doves make me think of the "When Doves Cry" video on MTV.. with Prince in the bathtub. A DREAM cake for any superheroes fan! Our client wanted a very special cake for her fiancé's 30th birthday and turned over the design to Rick to come up with something incredible! She asked for Black Panther to be prominently featured and a red jeweled crown on top the cake. The crown, the 3D Black Panther mask, hulk fist and all artwork was made by Rick. Our client and her fiancé were ecstatic and we were so happy with this cake! Rick was thrilled for the opportunity to make it!
Without a doubt, vehicles are one of the most difficult cakes to sculpt. The goal is for Rick to make the cake as realistic as possible, and WOW the client in the process. This cake did exactly that!

Rick designed this cake around Vegas Vickie, a sexy cowgirl who is an iconic 25-ft-tall neon sign here in Las Vegas. Some fun history about Vegas Vickie. She was originally stationed in1980 outside a strip club at the Glitter Gulch Casino on Fremont Street. When the Glitter Gulch Casino and others next to it were demolished in 2017 to make way for the new Circa Resort, Vegas Vickie was saved. In 2020 when Circa Resort opened, Vegas Vickie found a new home there! Rick made this eye-catching glittery Vegas Vickie/Las Vegas cowgirl themed cake for Monica’s birthday party. The cake has handmade artwork and plenty of sparkle!
Great Gatsby!! Rick made this 1920’s Gatsby inspired cake for Kerrie’s birthday. His design has all handmade decorations. Clients and guests loved the cake!

Hi there! It's been ages since we've posted here and we are overdue for an update. If you follow our Instagram, we've been great about posting there, but pretty awful about sharing here. cakelava is keeping quite busy making cakes in Las Vegas and we are so thankful for the opportunities we've had. Last night, we surprised Dio on his 21st Birthday, with one of the most powerful objects in the Universe - a sculpted Infinity Gauntlet cake! Rick sculpted the iconic glove out of chocolate cake. Dio is a big Marvel fan and was amazed by the special treat from his family.

Our client's theme was champagne and bubbles and she wanted to go BIG for her husband's birthday party! Rick designed an incredible cake we were all super excited about, and began preparations more than a week in advance. Creating a structure to suspend an oversize champagne bottle in mid-air pouring down into giant bubbles of cake is no small task! Meredith and Blake's wedding cake design was a dream scenario for Rick. The couple love art and wanted their wedding cake to make a statement and look like a piece of art. They guided Rick with a color palette, and then turned the entire design over to him! We were both madly in love with the result!
