For at least a year now, every few weeks someone has asked, “When are you bringing back the German Chocolate Cake?”

Well today’s the day. ❤️

Rich chocolate cake with that old fashioned coconut pecan frosting piled on top that’s gooey, crunchy, and sweet!! 💃🏼

This guy makes THE PRETTIEST cinnamon rolls! And he always has! 😍

This week is slightly wonky- we won’t be open on Saturday and we won’t be at the Frankfort Market that day either.

I am trying the Tough Mudder again. I’m stubborn enough to try it again, even though I fell off one of the obstacles last year. A torn tendon and torn ligament in my knee from that fall have made me cautious, though, so I’m going back hesitant, with more experience, and with realistic expectations.

That being said, we WILL be at the Lake Ann “Junk in the Trunk” market tomorrow (Tuesday) from 3-7!

Wednesday - Friday is still normal bakery hours and I’d so much appreciate the extra support on those days this week, since we are closed Saturday.

Thank you!! This summer is gearing up to be an exceptional one!

Prayers and positive thoughts this Saturday would be very, very welcome. 😅

Good morning!! I have entirely too many loaves of bread this morning (math is hard sometimes), so I’m doing a deal today- loaves are buy 1 get one 1/2 off!

We also have a ton of sweets, including MORE Maple Bacon Cinnamon Rolls. We sold out all 18 boxes so fast yesterday, and they were so good, so I used the last of the ingredients and made more this morning. I JUST pulled them from the oven. ❤️

Open until 4:00 in Lake Ann, and my brother is at the Frankfort Farmer's Market until 1:00!

When I was a kid, I rearranged my bedroom every couple of months because I got tired of looking at the same thing.

As an adult, I rearrange my house for much the same reason.

And unfortunately, that same trait shows up in my baking. If I do the same thing for too long, my brain starts desperately looking for new stimulation; anything to break up the monotony.

Today’s trouble started with having to cut up 25 pounds of strawberries. (Strawberry Rhubarb Pie coming soon!!) Somewhere around pound 15, my brain apparently decided it needed a new project.

So, meet today’s ADHD episode:

Maple Bacon Cinnamon Rolls.

Made with farmers market maple sugar, maple syrup gifted by a customer, and bacon pieces.

Will they become a permanent menu item? Probably not.

Am I convinced they’re going to be stupidly good? Without question.

Today is Thursday, which means I bake by myself. Thursdays are usually marked by getting to listen to *my* music that I know my other helpers don’t love as much, watching shows on Netflix, and random tasks being done at the same time.

And I always seem to be rushing because I don’t quite have as much time as I’d like to get all my things done.

But I do like Thursdays, quite a bit actually.

Because I can stop, even when I’m on a tight time schedule, and scrawl “The Bread Lady” into enough dough for six DOZEN cinnamon rolls, and not have anyone else bothered by me playing with the dough.

Come see me today, I’m open 11-4.

In entirely unrelated news, cinnamon rolls won’t be ready until about 11:30, though. Shocking, I know.

Homeschool moms and Anne of Green Gables fans, this one is for you.

I was making brown sugar while watching Netflix and accidentally added far too much molasses.

NOW I HAVE THIRTY-FIVE POUNDS OF BROWN SUGAR.

I feel like I have become Marilla Cuthbert. “TWENTY pounds of brown sugar!”

If Matthew shows up with a buggy full of feed sacks, I won’t even question it.

The good news is I probably won’t have to make brown sugar again for a month. 🙃

I have absolutely no idea how this happened, who nominated me, or what happens next, but it showed up in the mail and it made me smile!

This post has little to do with my bakery, or anything baking related. It’s more just a gentle nudge to not get lost in the rush of summer this year.

I know we get busy; we get rushed, we have to meet expectations, we have so much on our plates, and the calendar feels more full than physically possible. Weeks fly by and suddenly it’s the end of August and we haven’t checked off the summer bucket list items yet.

But Northern Michigan does this. And she does it so well! Please don’t miss it.

Take the time to go watch the sunset, grab some ice cream, play mini golf, take a drive, climb the sand dunes, look for northern lights.

Soak summer in this year.

We are so lucky to live here. ❤️

PS local tip- don’t leave when the sun dips below the horizon. Stay another 20 minutes. The color is usually just getting started!
