I’ve been dreading this post all day.
Not because I don’t know what to say—but because August 8 carries a weight that words will never be able to hold.
Before this day comes to an end, we simply cannot let it pass without remembering Lahaina and the 102 precious souls we lost. 🕊️
Three years later, we remember the families who still carry their absence. The survivors. Our kūpuna and keiki. Our first responders. The homes and businesses lost. The lives uprooted. And an entire community forever changed.
We will never forget those first days and weeks. No electricity. No cell service. Our little bakery, like so many places across Maui, became a place to gather. We cried, hugged, prayed, cooked and fed people in the dark while help poured in from Ohana around the world.
And while so many were grieving, Chef was grieving too. He had unexpectedly lost his own twin brother just weeks before the fires, yet through his heartbreak, he continued cooking and serving others who were hurting.
The fires went out, but the ripple effects did not.
Families are still navigating displacement and a housing shortage. And even our voiceless fur babies continue to feel those effects as limited pet-friendly housing places tremendous pressure on our Maui Humane Society. 🐾 If you can foster, adopt, donate or volunteer, please do.
Tonight, our hearts and prayers remain with Lahaina.
For healing. For restoration. For provision. For peace. And for every heart that still hurts a little differently when August 8 comes around.
Most of all, may the 102 souls we lost never become simply a number.
They were loved.
They belonged to someone.
They had stories.
They mattered.
As August 8 comes to a close, we remember you.
102 souls. Forever remembered. Never forgotten. 🕊️🤍
Lahaina, we love you.
We grieve with you.
And we continue to pray for you. 🙏🏼
