The Bakery will be closed until further notice. I have no time table at this point.

We bought the bakery as a home and were excited it had a business attached. Since we arrived it has never been a home only a business. Sprinkle in young kids, a move across country, stress of a business, new everything else (house, people, town, state), well it was the ultimate recipe for disaster. We baked it up gleefully and served it upon ourselves. It has completely eaten us up and well…. We are sorry.

We would like to try again at some point in the future, but honestly right now, we have more important things in life to fix.

Thank you for the wonderful support we were shown in our short time here. We really have grown to love this community and look forward to a prosperous future in time.

If anyone is looking for some excellent staff members please PM us.

Edit: Gift Cards: If you hold a gift card like the one attached I owe you money. I can pay that out at Bakery (we do still live there). If you have one on file in the shop I will be delivering a check or cash to you promptly.

Update from the Ryus Avenue Bakery.

We have decided to close for a few weeks now that the “season” is over.

Our target date to reopen is Nov. 20th, the Saturday before Thanksgiving.

The Bakery itself needs a little TLC. The employees will still be active and working in the business. We plan to deep clean the kitchen and also update with fresh paint on the inside. The bathroom and back hall need a little love too so that will be worked on as well.

We are also training and bring our newest baker up to speed in the operation over the next couple of weeks. He will be learning our laminated dough process and making our focaccia bread.

If all that’s not enough, school has gone to remote learning too. My two grade school children and teacher wife are home for at least 2 weeks. The house/bakery needs to become a quite place for them to work during the day.

Personally the biggest issue is we find ourselves in a constant state of catch up since we arrived in town Memorial Day weekend. We have had little if any chance to actually move to LaVeta. Everything is in half unpacked boxes and piles. We need a break to move and finally begin to LIVE in LaVeta. We keep putting this decision off, thinking we would eventually catch up. That is just not happening only falling further behind. I did just arrive with another Uhaul full of stuff to pile on top. This seems like a good time to stop and get everything put away and organized. Then start again when ready.

UPDATED: Abby has been found. She was found on Oak St.

Thank You everyone for helping look for her. Her parents were worried sick and had extended their visit to continue the search. Sure enough it paid off and they found her.

HELP!! Please share. She is still missing.

My Uncle and Aunt came for a visit Tuesday morning and their dog has run off in LaVeta. We have searched all day with no luck. She was seen Tuesday in the park and on Main St. but nothing since about 6:30am.

If you see her can you please call the Ryus Avenue Bakery. Her name is Abby and is probably scared and avoiding people. She was wearing a red harness when she disappeared.

Erika my wife has decided to follow her true passion and return to the classroom. She truly loves education and inspiring our youth. LaVeta has lost a baker, but gained an excellent teacher. I can’t thank her enough for helping us through our first season! (Picture is her very first day.)

We also say good bye to Brian. His plan was set to move on when the season ended. We are truly thankful for all he did this year. Such a great guy! Best of luck sir, hope to see you next year!

We are planning to reopen Thursday and return to normal hours.

Update: The new motor is here but it looks like we need another part to complete the fix. It will be here on Thursday so no baking until Friday. Sorry for all of this craziness!

Due to mechanical failure we will be closed Tuesday. Rough day today. I tried to band-aid it to get by for a day or two but it was just not having it. Motor is frozen up and just tired, it has worked really hard over the years. New motor is set to arrive tomorrow afternoon and Mark will get it installed so we can get back to baking Wednesday morning.

I’m so sad to hear that y’all are leaving La Veta but I wanted to thank you for the amazing job you both did on my husbands and my wedding cake and cinnamon rolls. Our wedding was last September and we came from out of state to be married in the mountains in Cuchara. The cake and cinnamon rolls were absolutely amazing and everyone at the wedding went nuts about the rolls. I’m so thankful for the opportunity to have your desserts for our special day and I thank you for the time and effort you put into not just these delicious pastries, but I know everything you put into your business as well. I wish I were there more often to support y’all but I wish you both all the best in your next adventure and whatever life gives you. 🤍

I just discovered a purpose for the reliably-present, small hole at the top the RAB sourdough bread loaf. You can use a wooden utensil handle to pull it out of the toaster without burning your fingers.

The King cake was good, that gumbo was fantastic, but I shed a single tear of overwhelming happiness over that PoBoy. 🥖😍🥰
