Being an "ingredient" household is a lot of work, but I carry so much pride knowing I have a skill that allows me to nourish and care for my family and friends. Making cakes from scratch has turned into making almost everything else from scratch. We still purchase snack crackers/chips and some canned/jarred food items, but most of our meals and all of our baked goods are made from scratch. I truly believe food is a love language. Good food prepared with love and passion brings comfort and comfort is hard to come by in this life. If I could afford to do this everyday for the rest of my life I'd never go to work again.
School lunches this week consist of pasta salad requested by my teenager, hummus and pretzels, celery and peanut butter, goldfish, fresh pineapple, and brownie bites. My 3rd grader loves peanut butter and honey ham sandwiches (don't ask, just let the kid like what he likes π), apple slices, carrots, Cheez-its, and brownie bites.
For breakfast we have a choice of scratch made biscuits with sausage, homemade mini waffles, homemade blueberry muffins, or store bought English muffins because...baby steps π
We're off to a good start for the first week of school. My wishes for a SAFE year, full of learning and growth and fun are with each and every parent, student, teacher, and faculty member. Please remember to be kind, and teach your children to be kind. Not every kid goes home to a loving family, and not every kid operates the same. Send those extra school supplies and pay attention to those Amazon wishlists your kids teachers post. They already don't get paid enough, and public school funding has become a joke. Support your children, support their teachers, support education.
