Lenoir County 4-H and Jones County 4-H youth joined together for an offshore fishing adventure this week!

While Mother Nature had other plans and brought some very large swells, our group adapted and spent much of the day fishing around the inlet. Even with the challenging conditions, everyone had a great time, learned new fishing skills, explored coastal ecosystems, and gained firsthand experience on the water.

Sometimes the best adventures aren't exactly what you planned - they're the ones that teach you to be flexible, work together, and make the most of every opportunity. What a great way to kick off our 2026 Summer! 🌊🐟🍀

🐟 We have a few spots remaining for the upcoming Offshore Fishing Day on Monday, June 15, 2026!!! 🐟

Age: 8-18
Cost: $90
Time: TBD ~6:30AM - 4:00PM
Location: Drop off/pick up at Lenoir County Cooperative Extension Office. 4-H Staff will transport youth to Morehead City.

Come by the office to complete the application & payment. Cash or check only!

📸 Get your cameras ready! Entries for the 2026 Dr. Kim Ingold 4-H Photography Contest are now open!

This annual competition encourages NC 4-H youth and adult photographers to showcase their creativity, practice photography skills and capture meaningful moments through the camera lens.

Participants can enter photos in the following categories:
🍀 4-H in Action
🌄 Nature’s Beauty
🐾 Animals
⚫ Black and White

All entries must be submitted by August 14, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Participants should review the contest rules, category requirements, judging information and submission guidelines before entering.

Last week, we had a wonderful time visiting Banks Elementary and spending the day exploring astronomy! 🌟🚀

We had the opportunity to work with all grade levels K-5 with the incredible STEAM teacher, Mrs. Ham 🌎✨

Students became young scientists and engineers as they:
🌕 Made moon craters
🪐 Created their own planets
⭐ Built constellations
🔭 Explored the planets in our solar system
🚀 Learned all about astronomy and space science

It was such a fun day filled with hands-on learning, creativity, curiosity, and excitement for STEM! A huge thank you to Mrs. Ham and the staff at Banks Elementary for making this experience so special for the students. 💙

Registration forms must be submitted IN PERSON at the Lenoir County Cooperative Extension Office. No spots will be held over the phone or email. Payment is required upon registration and is non-refundable. **Cash or Check only!!**

YOUTH MUST BE ENROLLED IN 4-H ONLINE 2.0 FOR 2026 YEAR TO ATTEND ANY CAMPS

Participants pick a topic they’re interested in, gather research, and share their knowledge at District Activity Day. We will be hosting presentation practice sessions where 4-H’ers can rehearse their presentations and receive helpful feedback as they prepare for District Activity Day on June 18, 2026!

Lauren makes us so proud representing Lenoir County and NC 4-H! 🍀

Please join us in congratulating 11th grader Lauren Powell on being elected as the North Carolina 4-H Southeast District Membership Engagement Officer! 🎉

In this leadership role, Lauren will represent Lenoir County as well as counties across the Southeast District of North Carolina 4-H. As Membership Engagement Officer, she will help encourage involvement in 4-H programs, welcome and connect members from across the district, support recruitment and outreach efforts, and promote leadership and service opportunities for students throughout the region.

Being elected to this position is a tremendous honor and reflects Lauren’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving others. We are incredibly proud of her and look forward to seeing the positive impact she will make while representing both Lenoir County and eastern North Carolina.
