π₯ SOURDOUGH BREAD π₯
These are two questions I feel need answered (because I questioned these same things before I started making sourdough!) This is lengthy but it's some great information!
Why do people charge more than what it would cost to go get a loaf of bread from the store?
First, it's homemade! Homemade is always better, we can control what goes into our homemade stuff! There's no preservatives.
Second, it takes time! To make a loaf of sourdough it takes at LEAST 12 hours!
Third, it is made with love and care! If you've ever made sourdough or had a starter you know the kind of care that goes into it. You feed the starter everyday, you do stretch and folds, you weigh everything by the gram, and so much more
Fourth, sourdough is gut healthy! due to a long fermentation process that breaks down gluten, reduces anti-nutrients (phytic acid), and lowers FODMAP carbohydrates, making it easier to digest!
Fifth, a lot of sourdoughs you see in the grocery store is 'sourdough inspired' so it's not true sourdough! So if you've ever made ever tried it and said 'I don't like sourdough' you might not have had the real thing!
What goes into a loaf?
If you get a plain loaf it's only 4 ingredients! Starter (which is made with flour and water and it ferments) flour, water, and salt! If you've ever made want mix-ins added it's whatever mix-ins you want!
