It’s the month of May, which means bat maternity season is here. 🦇🤰

During this time of year, bats begin forming maternity colonies to raise their young. In North Carolina, there is a moratorium on bat evictions during pup-rearing season from May 1 through July 31 because young bats are unable to fly for several weeks after birth and can be trapped inside during an exclusion.

If you find a bat in your home during this time, do not try to handle it yourself. Keep people and pets away, close off the room if possible, and call a professional like Pro 1 Pest Control guidance. If there has been any direct contact with the bat, or if a bat is found in a room with a sleeping person, child, or pet, seek medical or public health guidance right away because bats are one of the wild animals most commonly found with rabies in the U.S. and in North Carolina!
