The Potter's Wheel Empty Bowl Project Potters and local residents are joining in a community effort to raise funds for area food pantries. For more information www.emptybowls.net

The Kew Gardens Empty Bowls Event will take place on Sunday, March 18th, 4-6pm at The New Homestead Home. We anticipate3 200 friends and neighbors sitting around communal tables, sharing a simple meal of soup and bread in ceramic bowls created by local potters and community artists (like you!), served with the help of Girl Scout Troop 4007 and a devoted group of seniors. There will be two hours of

music, poetry and lots of lively conversation. Education, information and referrals will be available on accessing NYC services and proceeds of the day will be donated to the Food Bank for New York City. And you will keep the bowl that you choose as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. Sponsored by the generosity of The Potter's Wheel artists, The New Homestead Home, the Kew Gardens Improvement Association, Inc. & the Kew Gardens Council for Recreation and the Arts, Inc. EMPTY BOWLS is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger.

Our annual Empty Bowls fund raiser has been postponed, so we have reinvented the event. We can still help by making a donation to The River Fund. Come to The Potter's Wheel and select a bowl to keep as a reminder and in gratitude for your generous gift. Our bowls are ready and in view at the gallery. Hours to select your bowl are Mondays through Fridays from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm, or by appointment. Just show us your email acknowledging your donation.

Sincerest thanks to the many helping hands in putting on the Empty Bowls fund raiser on March 8, and to the generosity of Austin's Ale House for providing the space and delicious soup. The event raised over $3700 and we are still accepting donations as we have a few bowls and some cookies made by Colleen Lorusso, manager at the ale house.
