Everything After

Tomorrow marks another final market for another market season. A Farmers Market is a jewel, a beautiful, shiny bauble, found when you look past the mass produced, mass marketed, artificially flavored ordinary. Farmers, producers and makers gather early, rain or shine, in a parking lot, with tents, tables, bins, and boards, setting up mini storefronts for you to peruse what they dug from the ground, pulled from the oven or stitched with their hands....

I usually shape my whole grain as a boule, feeling the technique I use is more gentle. Having an extra loaf for today’s bake, I shaped as a batard and am not disappointed! thank you Moon Family Farm Chimacum Valley Grainery Cairnspring Mills for the beautiful flour in this mix ❤️

Life & Lemons

I love lemons. I love Lemon Pound Cake, Blueberry Lemon Scones, a chicken dish finished with a buttery-lemon sauce, Greg Atkinson's Three Citrus Butter to enjoy with Salmon ( I go a bit heavier with the lemon). Those California folks with a backyard lemon tree are lucky! In Washington, lemons are grown in pots on patios that can be protected during winter, or properly in heated greenhouses....

Before and after. The magic of ❤️

Kathleen was a TTK advocate, a stalwart market & porch customer. Seeing her on a Sunday, her smile and quick conversation always lifted the day. She was my favorite student! Pictured is her fruit tart she made for family in May, letting me know it was a hit. She attended Bread Camp after back surgery, made cookies and pies with me. She let me know when she got her diagnosis and I watched her handle the cancer with fight and poise. Today I found out that fight is over. My heart aches for her spouse and sisters, of whom I had met. I have wonderful customers, customers like Kathleen. Rest in peace dear Lady ❤️
