Kathleen was a TTK advocate, a stalwart market & porch customer. Seeing her on a Sunday, her smile and quick conversation always lifted the day. She was my favorite student! Pictured is her fruit tart she made for family in May, letting me know it was a hit. She attended Bread Camp after back surgery, made cookies and pies with me. She let me know when she got her diagnosis and I watched her handle the cancer with fight and poise. Today I found out that fight is over. My heart aches for her spouse and sisters, of whom I had met. I have wonderful customers, customers like Kathleen. Rest in peace dear Lady ❤️

Emmer is the first grain I fell in love with. Over the years it’s played parts in many of my baked goods, some solo, some as part of an ensemble. Many have heard of Farro, and in this country, Emmer is the only grain with that distinction (much to the sorrow of cousins Spelt & Einkorn). Maybe it’s because this grain is gorgeous, the only one I’ve met so far with radiant golden hues. Currently, Emmer from Bluebird Grain Farms | Organic Ancient Grains shares billing with Hazlet Rye from Moon Family Farm and chocolate from Equal Exchange West in a deliciously complex sea salted chocolate chip cookie. Don’t limit yourself to bagged white all purpose flour. Open yourself up to a very wide world of grain. Cheers!

You *should* know by now that the best getaways for me include bakery finds. This one was existential. A one-person production of sourdough, most hand-mixed, and delicious brioche. Arrived quite by chance 5 minutes before the 2 o’clock opening, joining the line of locals. Happy to see the bags of Camas Country Mill and Cairnspring Mills flour, the practical space and the racks of product. No IG account but find their website.
