Gramma K's Kitchen

Gramma K's Kitchen Cinnamon rolls, breads, muffins, and cookies I've been baking bread since before it was popular! I made my first batch of cinnamon rolls in 1980.

Like, who was making bread in 1980? And now, here I am filling orders and baking people happy.

THURSDAY, Part Two: Gramma K conducted an on-site tasting of the new STRAWBERRY ROLLS just hours after coming out of the oven.

Thank you to a great customer, Karen (we have a special bond!), and her grandkids for being the test market!

TRUTH BE TOLD THURSDAY: Honestly, I had so much fun yesterday testing a few new bakery items!

FIRST - the one I talked about in the video yesterday! STRAWBERRY ROLLS! Think cinnamon rolls, but STRAWBERRY FILLING!!

The filling is a layer of homemade strawberry "jam" with chopped fresh strawberries on top of that. A strawberry cream cheese mixture is drizzled over the top. They are made with the same dough used for Gramma K's cinnamon rolls.

They are quite tasty. And will be available for a limited time through August. $12/4 pack.

SECOND - again, truth be told, sometimes things don't work out right. I tried a new twist to the cinnamon roll - literally twisting it a different way. To look like a croissant.

Nice thought. But cutting triangles a uniform size apparently is not my strong suite. And I also don't think they are as moist as regular cinnamon rolls. So, that is going to go on the back burner for now.

Gramma K batted .500 in the testing kitchen yesterday. I'll take that!

If you want some Strawberry Rolls, let me know. And please order at least two days in advance.

WEDNESDAY WHY: Why does this yellow bowl give me full-blown anxiety?

A: Because that was all the butter I had left in the house one day last week! And that is a baker's nightmare!

But thankfully, I was at the end of baking for the day and I had more butter on a pick-up order.

The other photo shows how much butter could potentially be used in a day full of baking cinnamon rolls and 1/4 # chocolate chip cookies. What brings me comfort is knowing there is three times that in my freezer.

So.......that's the scoop on butter from Gramma K's Kitchen.

And that's why!

MONDAY MEMO: Congratulations! If you're reading this, you survived Maycember.

My May was incredibly busy and I'm sure yours was too.

Now, it feels like "official summer." And that also brings many reasons to use Gramma K's Kitchen for some yummy treats. A few examples:

VACATIONS: Some of Gramma's cinnamon rolls are headed to Florida today on a girls' trip.

BIRTHDAYS: Who wants to bake in the summer? Well, actually Gramma K doesn't mind. A simply decorated cake is going today to a CEO of a nonprofit.

YOUR TURN FOR TREATS FOR BASEBALL GAMES: Boxes of cookies are always a hit. (See what I did there?)

BUSY MOM: Families' days are full with kids out of school, sports, camp, etc. Let Gramma K help with the load for whatever bakery items you need.

However I can assist, just text or call 913-669-5532.

Menu below! And a few pictures of Gramma K's first summer trip.

TUESDAY TIDBIT: Gramma K is actually on a trip today! With three Littles (ages 3-5-6) and an older cousin that is helping with Cousin Control.

What did this older granddaughter want to take on our trip?

Chocolate crinkle cookies and Banana Cinnamon Roll bread!

The Littles really like Gramma's cinnamon rolls so they will be part of our breakfasts for sure.

So today's tidbit: Gramma K's bakery items can travel!

MEMORIAL DAY MONDAY: Getting a little personal today - the day we remember those who gave their lives so we can enjoy freedom.

This is my uncle I never met. My dad's brother. Franklin Weaver Davis, Jr. Some called him F.W. But his little brother Merle could say "Dubby" so that is what he was called.

My Uncle Dubby joined the Army when he was a teenager during WW2. He didn't come home. In fact, my grandparents died not knowing what happened to him.

A summary of the story that was concealed for years by the US Government is:

The US Army was conducting a practice run in the waters at Slapton Sands Beach England, called Operation Tiger, a few days before D-Day. My Uncle Dubby was sitting in his Jeep in the lower level of a ship when the ship was hit by Germans who had intercepted our signals and found out the US was out in the waters on a trial run.

This story was hidden from families and citizens for a number of years. Slowly, families of the MIAs were given the truth.

If you want to read the whole story, here it is.

https://www.history.navy.mil/browse-by-topic/wars-conflicts-and-operations/world-war-ii/1944/exercise-tiger.html

I hope you have some time today to reflect on those who have been willing to serve our country. And then ask yourself how you can be instrumental in promoting peace and generosity in our neighborhoods, cities, and country.

Wishing you a thankful Memorial Day.
