(running) faucet and get wet. Place in the oven, covered as to not overbrown, and warm for 5-10 minutes. Most people think that bread goes stale because it dries out. The starches in bread crystallize when they absorb humidity from the air. These crystals are hard, and this is the first stage of stale-ing. Stale-ification? Anyway…when you heat the bread in the oven or a toaster, you're melting those crystallized starches and driving off the water that is required for
them to reform. Why run the crust under water before putting it in the oven, then? Because by the time the starches melt and are driven off in the center of the loaf, the crust would burn. By wetting it, you're essentially delaying how long the crust is exposed to direct heat, which will help keep the crust crusty but not too crusty – so your bread will be warm and taste freshly baked. Missouri Cottage Industry Law provides:
The majority of the foods that can be produced in a home setting are covered within the food code, by a section of the definition of what a food establishment ‘is’ or ‘is not’. The section below provides the requirements to qualify for the exception to the definition of a food establishment that allows for production of foods in a home setting. (h) Where local codes allow, individual stands in which only foods meeting the following conditions are sold, sampled or served:

(ii) The seller is the individual actually producing the food or an immediate family member residing in the producer’s household with extensive knowledge about the food;

It's been a couple minutes since I've posted. So much has changed.

Mom called us the afternoon of May 24 and told us she was ready to go, and to call hospice. My sister and I flew out crazy early the next morning, and were fortunate to help care for her and spend treasured time together during her final days. Mom passed in the early morning rays of sunrise on May 29, surrounded by all five us kids. It's still impossible to believe she's gone, that they both passed just six months apart. How can she be gone?? Just mind blowing.

I baked last night, the first time I've been able to pull off the whole process since she passed. I even created a few new loaves. According to my IRL coworkers, the offerings were delicious. However, the motivation and willpower to pull off that whole process (and many other things in my life) wildly fluctuates at this point - my cousin calls it trapdoor moments, where it's like the whole world just drops out from under you for a bit - so for the time being I won't be scheduling any official bakes. Plus, it's excruciatingly hot outside (and inside) and adding 490 degree oven temps to that is pretty nutty. So for the time being, you can put in an order on the website, but I'll contact you to determine when the order might be made. Thank you for your understanding and support.

Make sure you love on the people who mean the most to you. It's so hard not to be able to give them that love anymore, once they're gone. Cherish it.

Hey friends!

It's been a minute or two, and life continues to put forth new challenges. I hope Spring is bringing happiness and joy to you!

For the time being, I will be only baking Club MLO orders *and* orders placed through www.bakedgoodsKC.com. I clearly can't manage to update this page (as truly easy as it is to do) with any regularity at this time, despite looking at it and knowing I've been sadly remiss. I do apologize, I just don't have the spoons for it at this time.

I *AM* still baking! It's just that the added pieces of posting and promoting aren't my priority right now, and I'd rather spend my energy actually baking and enjoying the process.

When you order through the website, I will reach out to you to confirm when I plan to bake next, and determine if that timing works for you. I am traveling frequently to Colorado to help care for our Mom, so my baking schedule accommodates that priority.

Thank you for understanding. Hug and LOVE on your people as much as you can, friends. The time is just too, too short.

My peeps!!

How was your weekend?? Ours was crazy busy - between basketball games, the Chiefs game, a wine tasting event, and then prep for and helping execute a Cub Scout pancake breakfast for a few hundred people yesterday....I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. It was super fun to share my breads with our community yesterday though - the 9 plain loaves pictured below, and 2 big multigrain MLOs with chocolate and banana!

This weekend, so far I have plain loaves, rosemary roasted garlic, rosemary & gruyere, and havarti dill on my list. What else sounds good to you? Let me know what I can get added for you by ordering at www.bakedgoodsKC.com. Pickup will be after 4:30pm on Sunday, so it'll be ready before your Chiefs soiree.

Hope you all have a lovely week! Hope you can snuggle in and enjoy the forecasted snow!

My current 2023 resolution (other than desk yoga) is to try to get myself back in the swing of life. I've been super disconnected from everything for over two months, so I need to find a way to focus and buckle back into the day to day. Part of that is getting back into baking!

Since many of us try to be a bit healthier in the new year, this month the MLO will be a multigrain with whole oats, toasted whole wheat berries, rolled with honey. For funsies, it'll also have banana chunks in it for a little sweetness, and dark chocolate chunks for a lot of deliciousness, because when I did that with some extra dough last month, I ate the entire loaf by myself.

the. entire. thing. (apparently I didn't even manage to take a picture, creezy!!).

All those bits and pieces are healthy, even when put together. If you'd prefer to enter 2023 without the chocolate/banana inclusions, lmk and I'll make yours without the sweet bits. Even though 2023 needs as much sweetness as it can get, imo.

This month's MLOs will be ready for pickup on Sunday after 4:30 pm. I also have sourdough rolls, rosemary & roasted garlic, and gruyere & garlic on my lists. What else sounds good to you? Order at www.bakedgoodsKC.com, and I'll contact you regarding pickup and payment processes.

Hope you all have a lovely week despite the current dreariness! MWAH.

Hey folx - baked. is closed for the holidays, and will reopen the first week of January 2023. Sorry for the delayed notice; I can't seem to get anything together in advance these days!

We hope your holidays are full of love, joy, and of course, wonderful foods shared amongst friends and loved ones.

Good Thursday to you, fellow paniphiles!

Thank you for your understanding and flexibility with my being absent so much lately, and for this being my first post of December. Outside of all the recent craziness in my life, it really feels like the holiday season zips by faster and faster every year. But now I'm back from my Dad's funeral, my starter is bubbling, and I'm ready to bake!

December's MLO is delectable! Heaps of boursin cheese, mixed with fresh minced garlic for little flavor bursts in your mouth. It'll be delicious with your holiday meats, or just on its own! As always, every MLO purchase donates a loaf o' LOVE to a teacher, whether one of your choosing or one from my list of requests. A big shout out to our teachers, for all their efforts and energy!

This weekend, I'm also baking up some rosemary & roasted garlics, plains, and my new version of a multigrain loaf, with oats, wheat berries, and perhaps other nuts or seeds, as well as some delicious crusty baguette loaves for a raclette party in memory of our Dad on Saturday night. What inclusions sound good to you?? Order at www.bakedgoodsKC.com and I'll DM you with pickup/payment details.

I'll have these ready for pickup on Sunday after 4pm (or maybe a bit earlier due to the Chiefs playing at 3something, right??). Go Chiefs!!

May your holiday season be full of love, joy, and peace. Thanks again for your support and understanding. MWAH.

And here we are, nearly a month since my last post.

Much has happened. Dad passed away last Friday, 34 days after his fall up at our cabin. It was an enormous blessing on Thanksgiving as he started his transition; 22 of the 23 people in our family were able to be in person with him, and the 23rd was on the phone from California for hours. Dad passed peacefully in his sleep on Thanksgiving night, surely welcomed by all of his siblings and his parents, and so many more to whom we've had to say goodbye.

The funeral is being held this Friday in Littleton. Due to the timing and travel, the December MLO will be baked between the 8th and the 11th. If you need to get your MLO outside those two bakes, please let me know and we'll figure out the timing for yours.

I will still be traveling to Colorado as much as possible to spend time with and help care for our Mom, so my baking schedule will continue to fluctuate. If you need an order for a particular date, please let me know and I'll do my best to accomodate you. The great news is, my breads freeze and reheat beautifully, so you can pack your freezer full for all your holiday gatherings. Order at www.bakedgoodsKC.com

Give your loved ones an extra hug today, please. Sending my love to you and yours.

Hey fam! How is this gorgeous Monday treating you??

It's crazy to realize I just baked my first loaf of the month. Actually, it's been closer to 3 weeks total since I've baked. I'm pretty sure that's the longest I've gone - particularly without baking for just my family - since I started 2.5 years ago! Unfortunately, the family emergency that took me to Colorado a few weeks ago persists as the new normal, so my baking schedule will continue to be altered for the foreseeable future. I'm glad to try to schedule any special bakes, but also need to be cognizant of what time and energy I have IRL...in short, I appreciate your continued support and flexibility as we navigate all this ick.

The good news is, we figured out this month's MLO!! We bring you the pesto & roasted garlic loaf, and you can add extra parmesan-ey gooeyness for an additional $2. Your taste buds are going to love you for this one!

I'll be baking Thursday this week, and of course on Thursday next week because it will be NATIONAL HOMEMADE BREAD DAY!!! How could I not?? So far I have MLOs, plain sourdoughs, chive/cheddar/bacon/jalapenos, and european hard rolls on my list. What sounds good to you?? Place your orders at www.bakedgoodsKC.com, and I'll contact you asap about pickup and payment.

And just like that, it's November! I'm sorry I've been MIA. Life really likes to keep the surprises coming, doesn't it?

Unfortunately, the month has started and I haven't even given a thought to what the MLO might be. I've had to take a break from baking - we had a family emergency with my father, and I was in Colorado for the past week. I'll be traveling there frequently, typically on weekends, so I'll be planning my bakes for mid-week, for the time being.

My apologies to all whose orders I had to push off when I went racing out to Colorado - I'll contact you this week to confirm your order.

All MLO peeps - I'll be getting those out either this weekend or next Tuesday/Wednesday - I'll reach out to see which is a better day for your pickup.

Holy Cholula, it's October already!! In the 14 years I've been in KC, I think this is the most gorgeous, autumnal autumn I've experienced here. What glorious weather!!

October's MLO is a delicious combination of gruyere and caramelized onions, swirled together in a meld of yumminess that can't be fully articulated. And just a reminder that for every MLO ordered, we gift a loaf o' love to teachers to offer our support and admiration for all they do. Teachers, please DM me for the signup link. Everyone else, please order through www.bakedgoodsKC.com. :)

Along with the cooler temps have rolled in tons of orders!! This week I'm baking plain loaves, kalamata olive loaves, fig/brie/caramelized onion loaves, rosemary & roasted garlic, chive/cheddar/jalapenos & bacon, rosemary & brie, and rye loaves. Let me know what you would like to add to my list!

I hope you all have a wonderful week! MWAH!

Ahoy, me mateys! (It's September 19) That tapped my pirate speak, so back to my normal dialect. 🙃

All of the sudden, we're most of the way through September! I'm not sure if it's back to school or what, but it feels time is going by in a blur. It'll be nice to get into autumn, cooler weather, and lots of baking!

Until then, just a reminder that you can always order through my website (www.bakedgoodskc.com), you don't need to wait for me to post about a bake. I'll contact you when I've had a chance to review your order to arrange pickup and payment.

My next scheduled bake will be September 28 - I'm taking a little break to go visit my parents in Colorado. I look forward to baking for you then!

follow me on facebook for weekly updates on new inclusions and offerings!

Hello hello, my good people! How are you doing this fine day? We've hit the middle of the week, thank all that's holy, and we're headed into a 3 day weekend, so I'm feeling pretty happy today. I hope your week has a positive forecast, too!

This week the September MLO debuts! This is a twist on the regularly available Hot Hatch & Goat Cheese loaf, but this month it will be made with fresh, not dried, Hatch chiles!! It makes for a super sloppy sourdough, but the amazingness of the moist (eek, yes, I used that word), fresh chiles really makes this loaf pop. This is a *spicy* loaf, but I can swap out with mild chiles (which can still occasionally have a kick, but they were labeled as mild) to try to reduce the heat - just shoot me a DM and I'll make it as flame reducing as possible. :D Sign up for Club MLO here: www.bakedgoodsKC.com/club-MLO

This week I have September MLOs, plain, multigrain & hot honey, chive/hot peppers/bacon/smoked cheddar, rosemary & roasted garlic, and chive & goat cheeses on my list. What can I add for your holiday weekend celebrations?? order at www.bakedgoodsKC.com/order-form.

Pickups this week will be Thursday evening - if you want to hold them for celebrations later this weekend, I recommend you put them in a ziploc bag and refrigerate/freeze/reheat when ready to use. Care instructions can also be found on the website or on the loaf labels. :D

Have an amazing weekend! MWAH!
