𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 – 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐜𝐤 𝐡𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭-𝐨𝐟-𝐖𝐚𝐲

Open Range signs along the highway are reminders that you are traveling through an open range area where there may be no fences for keeping cattle or other livestock off the highway. Since laws for open rangeland were established long before highways were built, livestock in these areas have the right-of-way, so it’s your responsibility to watch out for them. Open range areas are located throughout central and eastern Oregon so it is best to assume you are driving through one, even if you don’t see a sign. The Oregon Department of Transportation would like to ask that you buckle up, slow down, drive without distractions, and be sure to be extra cautious at night or during other low light driving conditions when a black cow could be nearly invisible.

FIRE & OUTDOOR REPORT: Oregon has established a hotline for residents impacted by wildfires. 1-833-699-0554 is a hotline operated 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. It is in place for the public to request help for long-term needs, such as for people who have lost homes or properties, are currently staying in shelters, are struggling with wildfire smoke, or have other concerns. Staffed by 211-info, the hotline does not provide emergency services, but is meant to help those impacted the most by wildfires. Just call 1-833-699-0554.

Get the FIRE & OUTDOOR REPORT each weekday on KZHC, KJDY & News102 at 6:20AM, 7:20AM, 3:20PM, and 4:20PM on local fires, outdoor reports, and travel tips courtesy of Jeanette Radinovich State Farm Insurance!
