Just received a meticulously bark-tanned deer and bark-tanned groundhog here de from Neanderthal Nonsense. I am not kidding when I say this leather is so far above the rest. I can’t wait to find a project for these hides ❤️

If you have an interest in black powder culture, colonial American history or early American history; this event is a must! You will get to see many of the country’s finest artisans all in one location!

If you are a maker of 18th or early 19th century arms or accouterments, I can’t recommend enough how submitting your work in the judging will advance your knowledge and skills.

We always appreciate seeing our items “in the wild,” proving that they are functionally sound as well as beautiful as static pieces.

I did not carve this horn, it was well done by Chris Fultz. The new owner of the obtained it from Chris with the body in the white and the throat stained brown. The new owner wanted a favorite saying engraved on it. He’s a fan of the John Bush style of engraving. I added more window dressing because it was such a great canvas. It wasn’t fulled stained and sealed in these pictures but you get the idea where it’s headed.

It will be delivered this weekend at Martin’s Station. I sure hope the owner likes it.

One small detail can really elevate the overall look. I know it can sometimes be controversial when and why to use smaller stitches.

But look at the difference—it requires switching to smaller tools across the board, including the awl, needle, and thread.

I think it’s worth it, even when it adds time to the job. You might not immediately notice what makes one look cleaner than the other, but the subtlety is there.
