My cookie journey...
Early in 2020 a friend invited me to join her in a local cookie decorating class (you know who you are and you know how much I appreciate you!) I had a LOT of fun at the class. I brought my cute decorated cookies home and my family really liked them. After that I decided it wouldn’t hurt to bake up some cookies and give decorating a try. I’ll be honest here - the first few sets I decorated were NOT pretty! BUT they tasted amazing! The best part was how relaxing I found mixing the dough, rolling and cutting them out, and baking them. My husband and I decorated St. Patrick’s Day cookies to take to a family event. Our family went nuts over them!
Easter is approaching and I thought, I’ll make some kits for some of the little kids in my family to decorate for the holiday. They really enjoyed them. Then I decided to do the same with the kids on the other side of our family to do for their moms for Mother’s Day. The kids all had a blast decorating and having something special to give to their Moms. I cannot tell you the joy I got from seeing how much they enjoyed this activity!
After Mother’s Day I started thinking - maybe other kids would enjoy this activity too, especially being stuck at home during a pandemic! So my DIY Kit business began... I am enjoying making these kits, but enjoy even more when I get pictures of them with their edible art and their huge smiles!
Lots of cookies later, I could definitely see an improvement in my own decorating skills. When a family member mentioned birthday cookies for her daughter, I told her I could come up with something really cute with plain cookie cutters. She let me give my skills a try and I thank her so much for that! They came out really cute and really boosted my confidence. So I am going out of my comfort zone to offer decorated cookies now as well too. I know I have a lot to learn yet, but I am so excited to try new things.
