Annie Clyde Rivers was born in Wren, Georgia on June 25th, 1915. She later moved to Jacksonville, Florida and worked at several different bakeries. She married Sylvester Reese and they had me, Brenda. While growing up, I remember coming home from school and smelling the aroma of homemade pound cakes, which my father referred to as “Sweetbread”. Everyone loved her cakes and she enjoyed baking them.

She especially loved seeing you enjoy eating them. She spent hours teaching me her recipes and techniques of baking a good looking and most of all a good tasting cake. She gave each recipe her special touch, which involved adding something extra for that great taste. She would compare cakes when we were guests at someone’s home or out at a restaurant. She also taught me to notice the texture of the slices, and she could often tell if a cake was any good just by looking at it. I am the only child she had and I wanted to share the love and greatness I grew up knowing. So I have developed miniature versions of those great pound cakes she baked for my father and I until her death in 1987. My mother taught me to love everyone and many other life values. So every time you take a bite of our mini gourmet pound cakes just know that you are getting a little bit of history, love, and the values Annie Clyde carried with her.
