✨✨GIVEAWAY✨✨
The harvest is in and December is coming. Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwaanza, Krampusnacht, Saturnalia, St. Lucia’s day, D**g Zhi, Shab-e Yalda, Soyal, Toji. How many of these holidays do you recognize, how many of them have you learned about? Here’s a magical fact: they’re all beautiful cultural interpretations of the same thing. The Winter Solstice. All of humanity has been creating joy and celebrating the earth together in whatever ways they could throughout all of human history. Isn’t that incredible? This year, I want to encourage everyone to tune out the political noise around us and learn something from each other. And then I want to celebrate that with some delicious cake! Here are the rules:
1) Seek out a holiday tradition from a part of the world you wish you understood more. This can be a place you trace your heritage back to, or somewhere you’ve never been and know nothing about. I’ve included a list above but if I missed any solstice celebrations please comment yours below, I’m still learning this too 😅
2) Once you’ve found a tradition that speaks to you, find a way to incorporate it into your family traditions this year. Drink Glühwein while listening to the Legend of Krampus, pop open a pomegranate and read poetry by Hafiz, go outside and gather some greenery to make a candle wreath for St. Lucia. These are just some ideas to get you started but as always I encourage creativity!
2) Share a picture of your new tradition and tag me so I can see it
3) Tag 2 friends below that you want to share the holidays with
All entries with be entered in a raffle and 3 winners will be sent 1/2 dozen cake jars of their choosing. This is open to anyone in the US from now until December 21st. I can’t wait to see what we all make!
