Cookies & More Iowa City's favorite cookies, baked from scratch, 39 years and counting! For delivery in the Iowa Ci

In 1983, armed with family recipes and an idea, Ed and Jane O'Brien and Jane's mother, Marge Miller, opened the first Cookies & More. Located in the Old Capitol Mall, the store was (and still is) in the heart of the University of Iowa campus in downtown Iowa City. On opening day, they had no idea that their cookies would become an Iowa City favorite and that 29 years later, their son and his famil

y would be carrying on the tradition of making cookies from scratch. Today, Cookies & More is owned and operated by Alex O'Brien (Ed and Jane's son) and his wife, Angie O'Brien. Alex remembers helping his parents crack eggs at the store when he was 10 years old. He, along with his brother Jack and sister Sara, each had their stint of working in the store while in high school. After receiving his bachelor's degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management from Southwest Missouri State University, Alex returned to Iowa City to manage the cookie store along side his mother, Jane. Angie started working at the store after Jane's retirement in 2004. Angie is a University of Iowa graduate with a degree in Business Administration. She currently runs the Sycamore Cookies & More and the Sycamore Dairy Queen. Alex and Angie have two children, Harper, age 9, and Calvin, age 4. Like Alex, Harper and Cal are growing up in the cookie business, cracking an egg or two along the way.

The Iowa City Police Department and partnering agencies continue their search for Cristian Martinez, 20, of Muscatine.

Martinez was last viewed walking west in the 100 Block of W. Harrison Street around 12:56 a.m. Saturday, April 15. Because of his direction of travel, police believe the biggest threat to Martinez' safety is the Iowa River.

In the time since Martinez was reported missing, police have received numerous tips from the public and Martinez' family members. Those tips, as well as leads developed through the investigation, have been investigated thoroughly.

Search and rescue efforts conducted include:

• A ground search of Ralston Creek and the Iowa River south of the Burlington Street Bridge by the Iowa City Fire Department.
• Multiple visual searches of the area where Martinez was last seen, including railroad tracks and the Iowa River shoreline.
• A review of Martinez' bank account and cellphone activity.
• Investigators obtained surveillance video from sources including the City, University of Iowa, Johnson County and other private video.
• Drones with high quality video capabilities have been used to search along the Iowa River and in the area where Martinez was last seen.
• Working with Johnson County Emergency Management and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the outflow of the Coralville Reservoir was reduced to aid in the search of the Iowa River.
• Johnson County Sheriff's Office deputies have conducted boat searches on the Iowa River.

ICPD investigators remain in close contact with Martinez' family. Police strongly encourage anyone with information on Martinez' whereabouts to contact the department at 319-356-5275.
