I always enjoyed making their birthday cakes and one day decided to buy the “Wilton’s Bugs Bunny” cake pan just to see how it would turn out. I was amazed when looked just like the picture. I showed it to my neighbors and they said I should start selling cakes. I said “I’ll make them if they want to buy them” Well, the requests came in and I was making cakes. That year we went home to Kansas on le
ave for 6 weeks. While there I got in on 4 weeks of a 6 week course on cake decorating at “Nancy’s Cake Creations” in Independence, Kansas. I also volunteered to work in the bakery and learned everything I could in that short time. My brother helped me get a Kitchen Aid Mixer and a Copy Kake Machine and when we got back to England I was ready to make cakes. At that time I babysat during the day and decorated cakes at night. The two went hand and hand. Parents bought cakes for there kids’ birthdays and other events. I also babysat for an Air Force Captain and did several cakes for his official banquets and functions. We returned to the States in 1983 and I continued to do cakes on the side. In 1992 after 16 years of marriage and three children; Tiffany, Amber and Tyler I went through a divorce. I went back to school got my Psychology degree and finished raising my children while continuing to decorate cakes out of my home in Cherryvale, KS. In 1998 I entered my first cake competition at the Coffeyville Fair and Rodeo. My Entry “A Garden of flowers and butterflies” took Grand Champion over everything entered, not just cakes. I was so surprised when they said I won. In 2006 My Daughter Tiffany, encouraged me to enter a cake in to the Tulsa Sate Fair Where I place 2nd in the Semi-Pro Division for “The Lady in the Garden” Cake (Which is my profile picture), again I was so surprised. This cake also made in into the December 2006 issue of America’s Cake Decorating Magazine. Over the past 29 I have continued to do cakes out of my home for Family and Friends and I enjoy it very much. I currently live in Independence, KS and when the opportunity came up to be able to open this Bakery in the exact same place as where Nancy’s Cake Creations used to be and where I took my first classes, I was thrilled. We opened On March, 1st 2011 and have had a wonderful response from customers and the community. I even have the pleasure of working close to Nancy as she still has a party supply store that is right across the street and she is always happy to help me out. Thank you everyone for your support and don’t forget to come in a get your sweet for the day:)
