Since 2023, we’ve had the privilege of following Greer’s remarkable journey through chronic kidney disease, dialysis and, ultimately, a life-changing kidney transplant.

On September 14, 2023, Dayna Croteau Emerson—moved by a Facebook post about Greer—gave him the extraordinary gift of a donated kidney. Because of her selfless decision, Greer has been able to return to work, travel, snowboard, rock climb and fully embrace life again.

Greer and Dayna’s story is a powerful reminder of the profound impact one person can have through living donation. We’re honored to share their story and help raise awareness for a cause close to the Effie’s community.

From a family oatcake recipe to the shelves of more than 5,000 stores, what a journey it has been.

Effie’s co-founder Joan MacIsaac recently joined Jon LaClare on the Harvest Growth Podcast to share the story behind Effie’s Homemade and some of the lessons we’ve learned along the way.

Joan talks about why sampling has always been at the heart of our business, how conversations with customers have shaped everything from our packaging to our messaging, and why thoughtful, steady growth matters.

For us, offering someone a sample has never been only about sharing a biscuit. It’s an opportunity to listen, learn, and make a genuine connection—and those small moments have helped Effie’s grow from 13 stores to more than 5,000.

From pasture to biscuit. 🐄🧈

We recently visited Barstow's Dairy Store and Bakery in Hadley, Massachusetts, a member of the Agri-Mark dairy cooperative and part of the story behind the butter we use in some of our biscuits. The farm is also turning food and farm waste into renewable energy and fertilizer with an innovative anaerobic digester. Pretty amazing, if you ask us!

Now, whenever we pass Barstow’s, we’ll think of their hardworking cows and the delicious journey their milk takes to become part of an Effie’s biscuit. We love knowing the people and places behind our ingredients!
