Now THAT’S a cake! Let me tell you, this elegant -yet absolutely towering- confection was most certainly NOT a piece of cake to create! (Ha) The six extra-tall tiers of almond cake alone soared more than 42” high (not including the height of the plateau cake stand) and I needed a step ladder to finish decorating the top two tiers and arrange the flowers on top. But these tiers, decorated in hand-piped buttercream with brush embroidered lace, rosettes, pearls, and delicate touches of gold throughout, created a stunning (albeit very tall) bridal cake. So exciting!! Earlier today I set up this bridal cake and this evening I actually got to ATTEND the wedding! (That doesn’t happen all that frequently!! Ha!) And of course my hubby had to ham it up with pictures before the bride and groom came in to cut the cake.
Don’t worry- No cakes were harmed in the taking of these pictures. The husband, however, might have been slightly harmed because he nearly gave me a heart attack. Congratulations Jordan and Matthew!!

Fun times this week creating a whisky barrel out of cake. Bonus: the cake and frosting were flavored with Crown Royal Peach Whisky, so you know I HAD to do taste tests… many, many taste tests. Y'all!! Today is NATIONAL DOUGHNUT DAY!!! Woo Hoo!
Yes, I realize I make cakes, not doughnuts, -BUT- you have to admit they are both delicious baked goods and go oh-so-well with each other. (See attached picture for reference).
And ya wanna know something interesting? While doughnuts are amazing and deserve a celebratory day in their own right, today's Doughnut Day was actually created to celebrate the Salvation Army "Lassies", brave women volunteers who went to the front lines in Europe during WWI to help boost morale by making donuts and other homemade goods for American soldiers. One of these awesome ladies, Margaret Sheldon, wrote of one busy day: "Today I made 22 pies, 300 doughnuts, 700 cups of coffee."..
Can you imagine?!? I'm simultaneously in awe, humbled, and sympathetically exhausted by these kick-butt women.
Thank you for indulging the nerd in me. Now go eat a doughnut (or two!) and know that you’re not just enjoying a delicious piece of WWI history, you’re honoring the brave US soldiers who fought for victory, and the lassies who freely dispensed deep-fried comfort.

Whether its a simple cake for a small gathering, delicate petit fours for a shower, or a towering cake for a large party, all of my cakes are customized to the vision of my customer. Each cake is intricately designed, colors and texture included. I am happy to draw from your inspiration or add custom touches of your own personal flair to existing designs. I will be sure to add any special elements to make your cake what you’ve always wanted it to be. I work hard to ensure that each cake is also delicious; made with fresh ingredients and decorated with creamy buttercream frosting, not covered in fondant.
