It’s no secret that I am a HUGE animal lover. Our farm quickly (and accidentally) turned into a self proclaimed animal rescue (stay tuned for us turning into an actual non profit, God willing!). About a month ago I received a message saying that someone had found three baby kittens, and they needed someone to take them in. As soon as I saw a video of them I knew they would die if we didn’t take them. These babies couldn’t have been more than 4 days old, and they were in bad shape. We picked them up around noon, and instantly I realized the severity of their condition. It was so bad that I thought one was actually gone when I opened the box they were given to me in.
For the hour drive home I did skin to skin contact to attempt to get their body temperatures up, and was successful at warming them. They were mouth breathing (that’s a horrible sign) and were unable to take a bottle. We keep rescue items on hand at all times, but even with all the materials we still couldn’t stabilize them. I quickly realized if I didn’t call for backup I would lose them all. That’s when I found Purrfect Cat Rescue Inc.. I can’t tell you how many rescues I called (it was Sunday so either no one answered or no one called back), but Purrfect Cat Rescue was the ONLY one to not only answer the phone, but triage with me over the phone AND find someone within 20 minutes of me that could help. Sadly the babies were too far gone, and they all passed away. But beauty can always come from the ashes, and a beautiful friendship has since been formed with the cat rescue that helped us.
We will be changing our tip jar over to support them and their efforts for the month of September, and we will also be hosting a fundraiser for them (I’m at a loss for this one, so if anyone has ideas PLEASE let me know!). I took a tour of their facility yesterday and I can honestly say that they are one of the best (if not the best) run rescues I’ve ever come across. So if you’re looking to adopt a cat/kitten, please consider rescuing from them! And if you want to help support this amazing rescue, please consider dropping a few dollars into the tip jar this month.
“Hey Mary, you’re a bakery. Stop posting about animals and rescue”. Can’t stop, won’t stop. I’m me, and this is part of who I am. So kindly enjoy your treats with a side of kitty love today❤️
