After much thought, consultation, assessment, hand-wringing and yes, tears, Carole and I have decided to retire. We first owned my family’s bakery in Queens for 10 years and then the last 30 years here in Huntington. We have tried to bring the freshest and tastiest baked goods to your table for you to share with friends and family. Along the way the bakery has become intertwined with the Huntingto

n community. The bakery was sold to Chef Benny Borgognone and his bakery is Buttercooky Bakery of Floral Park and Manhasset. Chef is Going to keep our building a bakery, and keep our bakers and sales staff. More importantly, he understands the responsibility of providing quality baked goods to the Huntington community. We have visited his bakeries in Floral Park and Manhasset many times. They put out a beautiful product. Buttercooky has a great reputation within the community and I am completely comfortable turning the reins over. I must admit we turned down higher offers for the real estate. We have the utmost confidence that the bakery will continue in capable hands. Thank You! Rich Reinwald

Today is Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, Carnival in Rio and Cologne and in Munich, Bavaria it is Fasching Dienstag. To celebrate our Bavarian heritage we have the Fastnacht kichler (lenten donut) and Hot Cross Buns. Customers say we should make the lenten donuts all year but I feel Holidays make the year special. So come in and try this limited offering.

Next Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. That means tomorrow we will be having Fastnachts donuts for the first time this year. Also this weekend is last weekend for February specials. The above pictured cherry cream torte has been a big hit. Hope to see some of you this Sunday.

Do you like working with people? How about meeting people from the Huntington community on a daily basis? Are you passionate about food? Reinwalds has a convenient shoulder shift available. Hours would be 8am to 3pm and one weekend day. Weekend hours are flexible as earlier or later than 8am. We would love to talk to you if this sounds interesting to you. Perhaps you have a friend or family member that this could work for.
