Chai tea has so many health benefits, is ultra warm and comforting and is super easy to make allergy friendly! Today I'm sharing how I make my chai tea with a few spices, soy milk and agave nectar, although you can use whatever milk and sweetener you prefer! Don't be intimidated by the spices if you're not used to using them. This recipe is very forgiving (I actually don't use a recipe when I make it-I just throw stuff in!) You can use ground spices if you have them and don't want to run out for others, and you can vary which spices you use each time if you don't have one/some on hand.

RECIPE
------------
4 green cardamom pods
10 black peppercorns
a slice of fresh ginger root
1 tsp of fennel seeds
1 star anise
1 cinnamon stick
5 cloves
2 cups of water
1 cup of soy milk
1-2 T of black loose leaf tea or 3 bags of black tea (like Lipton, etc)
Sweetener of choice
Crush cardamom pods and slice ginger root. Boil all spices in water for about 10 minutes. The longer you boil it the "spicier" it will be. Adding more ginger will make it spicier too. Add in tea leaves or tea bags and steep a few minutes. Lastly, pour in a cup of milk and add sweetener to taste. Traditionally this is a pretty sweet drink, but I tend to make mine with just a little bit of agave sweetener. My kids and husband like a few tablespoons of cane sugar! Let me know if you make it β
