Plot twist: Summer and Father's Day are this week. At least that's what we're telling ourselves.

Thanks to an unexpected closure, we missed the first week of Summer and Father's Day, so we're officially declaring this week a do-over. We hope you'll join us in a little collective time travel and pretend right along with us.

Our next Perrysburg Farmers Market is just around the corner, and I (Jess) wanted to share a few hopes that our little company carries with us to every market we attend.

First and foremost, we hope you truly enjoy your bread and all the other goodies you take home. We pour our hearts into everything we make, and we want it to reflect the quality and care we strive for every day. If you ever receive something that doesn't meet those standards or leaves you disappointed, please let us know. We would love the opportunity to make it right because your experience matters to us. ☺️

Another hope we have is that you leave our booth a little better than when you arrived. If you're already having a wonderful day, we hope to add just a little more joy to it. If you're carrying a heavy heart or simply having an off day, we hope a warm smile, a kind conversation, or a fresh loaf of bread can bring a bit of comfort and sunshine into your day. ☀️

We want you to know that you are loved. You have immeasurable value. We see you, and we're grateful that you chose to stop by our booth. Every person who visits us is more than just a customer—you are a neighbor, a friend, and someone worthy of kindness and respect.

This ball of dough looks ready to bake, but here's the thing- it's not bread dough.

This our starter just after being fed. This beautiful, "stiff" starter holds magical little yeasties that help make our bread so delicious.

By tomorrow, it'll spread out, and become a little stringy. Still, though, it will be dry enough to reform into a ball, making it easy to tear off the perfect portion for making dough.

I genuinely never thought I'd become a baker, but my fascination for this process quickly grew into a passion that I love. Every step holds mystery and wonder.

Hello friends,

Today, as I reflect upon the lessons I've learned from my dad, I realize that there is one, that I happily apply to Joyfully Risen: don't be wasteful.

We want you to know that we're a "waste-not-want-not", business and bakery. When something goes wrong in the kitchen, as things sometimes do, we try to repurpose failed items. Over fermented dough might be saved and turned into delicious focaccia to feed our neighbors through outreach centers. Loaves that go unsold are either donated, gifted, or discounted. We even turn wildly charred bread into delicious croutons for home use.

This go-round we took over-worked pizza dough, unfit for sale, and used it to make some pocket meals for our family! These will be frozen and reheated as needed.

It's important to us that we're mindful of how we treat the food we're responsible for, we're blessed to have it, and are so grateful.

I thought I'd give you a peek into the bakery on an off day.

Today the bakery is busy, just not in its typical way. I will be making meal pockets for my family that will be individually wrapped and frozen for quick, easy-to-reheat, wholesome meals.

Pictured are chicken enchilada pockets, and I'll also prepare:

🥓 Pizza Pockets (bacon and pepperoni)
🌶️ Buffalo Chicken Pockets
🥧 Chicken Pot Pie Pockets
🥦 Potentially ham, broccoli, and cheddar too—if I have the time!

As a quick snack or side, I'll make dozens of twice baked potatoes, too, in many different flavors.

Even on days when the oven isn't full of customer orders, and market bakes, it's still working hard to feed the Joyfully Risen team. Spending a day meal prepping like this means less stress on busy evenings and more homemade options ready to grab from the freezer. Sometimes Joyfully Risen's ncreations never make it to display. 💗

Hello friends

We're going to miss you tomorrow! While it seems that the forecast is reporting diminished wind speeds, we're already past the point of no return in our decision to be absent from this week's market.

To everyone who placed pickup orders, thank you so much for your support! It means the world to us. To those who missed the posts about our absence this week, or are simply unable to make it out to Holland, we understand and want you to have great bread, even if it's not ours.

On that note, we'd like to direct you to a wonderful Perrysburg Farmers Market vendor, Sur Le Pouce. This baker is so incredibly talented, and as sweet as can be. She makes the best croissants we've ever had and we've heard wonderful things about her sourdough, too! Her booth is located almost directly behind Joyfully Risen's, but shifted just a to the side.

We've been keeping a close eye on the weather for Thursday and haven't seen much improvement in projected wind speeds. It seems we will have to stick with the plan of forgoing market- which makes us sad.

We love seeing you all each week. We love each interaction. Each smile.

Keep in mind that you can still place pickup orders for Thursday if you'd like! Please try to get those orders in today.
