We are happy to welcome back Yajima Sensei!

We are grateful for the time he spends with the Hilo Hongwanji Judo Club and for sharing his knowledge, techniques, and experience with our judoka.

As our judoka prepare for upcoming club tournaments, his guidance and instruction help us continue to develop and refine our judo. Thank you for a meaningful practice. The training is challenging, but the lessons are rewarding, and we appreciate the opportunity to learn from him.

Before our 2026 Awards Banquet, we had to continue our tradition of taking a group photo on the temple stairs! 🥋📸
Each year, this photo captures the dedication and friendships that continue to make our club special.

This year’s banquet was especially meaningful as we celebrated our judoka, recognized their achievements, and honored Sensei Okimoto as he steps off the mat and into an advisory role.

This isn’t goodbye. We shared many memories and moments from his time on the mat and wish Sensei Okimoto a retirement filled with happiness, good health, time with his plants, rest, and new adventures ahead. 🌱

Thank you, Sensei Okimoto, for your many years of guidance, dedication, and the lasting impact you have made on our judo community.

Congratulations to all of our award recipients, and thank you to everyone who continues to support and strengthen the Hilo Hongwanji Judo Club. 🥋

A new rank represents more than just a new belt — it symbolizes a new beginning, a new journey, and a continued commitment to self-improvement, mutual benefit, and the principles of judo. Each step forward reflects the hard work, perseverance, and support that comes from being part of a judo community.
