Dear Hillsboro:
I am heartbroken to announce that after all these years, Jim's Ice Cream will be closing for good on August 23rd, 2026.
As if the last 2 years haven't been difficult enough, the property owner has now decided to not renew my lease and to sell the property. In a perfect world, I would purchase the property and stay in business. However, the evaluation has been inflated due to the presence of my business, which makes financing very difficult. This all being compounded by my walk-in freezer that has been having issues all summer and will require 20-30 thousand dollars to repair, which I cannot justify investing into a building with such an uncertain future. The silver lining is that it was only due to the freezer issues that I was even made aware that the sale was being planned. This decision is completely out of my hands.
The last 8.5 months of business has been the best we've ever had. Our renewed success after reopening comes directly from the support of this amazing community. I can't thank you all enough, from the bottom of my heart. You've really shown up when we needed you most.
To answer the most asked question on everyone's mind: No, we don't intend to move to a new location. Yes, we have looked at, analyzed, and truly considered MANY options. It's just not the right fit for our business.
Over these next few weeks, please note that our inventory available will be decreasing and when something is out, its gone for good. I have one more small ice cream delivery coming on Tuesday the 4th, and when it's gone, we won't be replacing it after that. Since we have so much work to do to prepare to leave the property, we will be altering our hours for the month. Monday-Thursday, we will be open 4pm-10pm; Friday-Sunday, we will still be open 12pm-10pm.
When you visit, please be mindful that my employees will be losing their jobs soon. Please show them some extra kindness and gratitude for all the work they do. They've earned it!
And lastly: EVERYTHING is for sale. If you see something you want, let us know. If the employee doesn't know, they will take down your information and I will be in touch - or message me directly on Facebook and I will get back to you when I can.
Thank you for everything; Most importantly, for a lifetime of memories and friendships. I look forward to seeing you all in these next few weeks and saying goodbye.
