One thing I wish I had done from the beginning as a cottage baker…

Keep my business purchases separate from my personal shopping.

Once you start buying labels, packaging, equipment, shipping supplies, ingredients, and all the other little things a cottage bakery needs, it can get surprisingly difficult to keep track of what you’re spending on the business.

I started using Amazon Business for my Clear Creek Sourdough purchases, and I really like having a separate place for my business shopping.

So I put together a quick page explaining why I use it, what I use it for, and why I think it can be useful for other cottage bakers.

And the best part? The account is free to create.

Cottage bakers — this little thing has been a GAME CHANGER for me.

I keep getting questions about my product and ingredient labels, so I figured I’d share the printer I actually use.

I use a MUNBYN Bluetooth thermal label printer and I LOVE being able to print my labels at home as I need them. No ink, no ordering hundreds of labels every time I add a product, and I can print everything from ingredient labels to QR codes.

It has been especially helpful as Clear Creek has grown and I’ve added different products and packaging sizes.

If you’re starting a cottage bakery or just tired of fighting with labels, this is one piece of equipment I’d definitely consider.

And if you’re new here because of the cottage-baker community—welcome! I’m sharing the things I’m actually using and learning as I build my own little cottage business, so stick around!

The next issue of The Weekly Rise is coming Sunday!

This week we’re talking sourdough inclusions — when to add them, how much to use, and how to keep all those delicious extras from messing with your dough.

Cheese, chocolate, fruit, herbs, jalapeños… I want them ALL. 😂

If you’ve ever wondered “Can I put that in sourdough?” this one’s for you.

What’s your favorite inclusion?

I’ve been working on something I’m really proud of.

The Weekly Rise — Issue 4 is out this morning.

I’m building Clear Creek Sourdough into a place where beginners can actually learn why sourdough behaves the way it does—not just follow another recipe.

If you’ve been following along, thank you. 💚

New to sourdough? Start here. ❤️

You do NOT need to know everything before you bake your first loaf.

I’m building Clear Creek Sourdough’s Learning Library to make sourdough a little less overwhelming—one simple question at a time.

Starter care. Feeding. Fermentation. Shaping. Baking. Troubleshooting.

Start with the basics and go deeper when you’re ready.

Well… I finally took my own advice 😂

I’ve been telling everyone to read your dough, not the clock.

Funny thing is… I realized I wasn’t always doing that myself.

I used to think, “It’s been about 8 hours, so it must be ready.” This week I decided to slow down and really pay attention to my dough instead.

I timed my starter so it was at peak when I mixed my dough, and during bulk fermentation I watched the rise, bubbles, jiggle, and how the dough actually felt instead of watching the timer.

The difference was incredible.

This is hands down the best loaf I’ve baked. The oven spring, the ear, and the crumb all turned out better than any loaf I’ve made before.

It’s a good reminder that sometimes the biggest improvement doesn’t come from changing your recipe—it comes from changing what you pay attention to.

Turns out… I needed to take my own advice.
