Thank you to everyone who donated to the Backpack Program RSU16 this year. Your generosity helps make sure local children have food over the weekends and school breaks, and it has been such a blessing to see our community support this program.

It is my pleasure to donate bread to the children in the program during the summer months. I love being able to play a small part in caring for these kids and their families. Programs like this have my heart, and I am grateful to everyone who helps make them possible.

As you see me out and about at festivals and markets this summer, you'll notice a special "bag" at my booth for collecting donations for this program. There is also a place to drop off donations at the bakery if you'd like to contribute throughout the year.

Together, we can continue to support local kids and families in a practical way.

One step forward, two steps back.

The venting for our unconventional window AC setup apparently worked a little too well. At least that’s what we think might be happening. 🤷‍♀️ Ice built up on the front coils and over the last few days, as it slowly melted, it destroyed the drywall ceiling in the bathroom. Water was practically pouring out when we starting removing the drywall.

This is a bummer because we are so close to painting. Someday I’ll laugh about this. Today is not that day.

Someday this will just be another chapter in the story of building this sourdough bakery dream. There will be quite a list of things that went wrong. Things we didn’t know. Things we couldn’t afford. Mistakes we made. Problems we never saw coming.

There have been financial limitations. Physical limitations. Plenty of opportunities to throw our hands in the air and say, “This just isn’t worth it.”

But it is worth it.

So we’ll tear out what needs to be torn out, find a solution, and keep moving forward.

This dream has never been built on perfect circumstances. It’s been built one obstacle, one lesson, and one answered prayer at a time.

My faith is not lost.

If anything, after all these years, I’ve become more convinced that the hard parts are part of the story too and I know that God’s hand is working even during trials like this.

Banana bread on the shelves today!

These cute little mini loaves are long fermented with organic flour and made with brown butter for extra richness and flavor. Before baking, each pan gets coated with organic cane sugar, organic cinnamon, and ground banana chips, creating a lightly crisp and delicious crust.

Simple ingredients, lots of time, and a little sourdough magic.

The Bread Box is open Wednesday through Saturday at 9am. Drive up to the red metal building and browse the grab ’n go shelves at your own pace. We prefer cash, but all forms of payment are accepted. Located at 294 Merrill Hill Road in Hebron. Call or text (833) 656-7868 with any questions.

The stage has been set for a future cold storage addition.

This is definitely a future project. I have enough projects going right now. 😅 But when the Town of Hebron offered free fill from their culvert work, I couldn't pass it up. The space behind the bakery needed to be filled and leveled eventually, so this was too good of an opportunity to let go by.

Today reminded me how blessed I am by the people around me.

The husband of my friend at Olive Branche Farm spent the day here with his tractor moving dirt. Work that needed to be done and would have taken me a very long time on my own.

At the same time, another friend has been coming over throughout the past week to help mud the bakery kitchen. Thanks to his generosity, it looks like that job will be finished within the next week.

Which means I can paint.

And after that?

The only major thing left is installing the plumbing fixtures.

And then you know what that means...

After years of baking in borrowed corners, makeshift spaces, and constantly adapting, we're getting very close.

I am so grateful.

Actually, grateful doesn't seem like a big enough word.

Building this bakery has never really been just about a building. It's about community. It's about people showing up. Every tractor load of dirt, every drywall seam mudded, every encouraging word and helping hand is part of the story.

Ruby on the Hill isn't just a place that sells bread. It's becoming a community project, whether people realize they're participating in it or not.

I may be the one with the crazy ideas, but I certainly haven't built this dream alone.

The Town of Hebron dropped off a few piles of fill for us today from a culvert project they’re working on.

Most people would probably look at a giant pile of dirt and see a giant pile of dirt.

I look at it and see a future walk-in cooler.

Never mind that the bakery we’re currently building isn’t even finished yet. Apparently I have already moved on to planning an addition.

Can you imagine being married to me? 😅

“Hey honey, I know we’re still mudding drywall, installing plumbing, and trying to finish the bakery kitchen… but what if we started preparing for the walk-in cooler?”

To his credit, Eric didn’t even seem surprised.

It’s like I always say: he made his choices 20 years ago. Don’t feel sorry for him.

In all seriousness, this fill is a huge blessing. It will help us level and reclaim the space behind the bakery so that when the time comes, we’ll be ready for the next phase. One project at a time… or in my case, three projects at a time.
