Get Up and Do Your Part

How long will you [a]slumber, O sluggard?
When will you rise from your sleep? Proverbs 6:9 NKJV

Too much activity and no rest definitely is the culprit behind most stress, but no activity is also a problem. I am sure you have heard that exercise is a great stress reliever, and it is very true. I would rather be physically tired from exercise and movement than tired in my soul from doing nothing and being bored.

Work is good for all of us. As a matter of fact, God said we should work six days and rest one. That shows how important work and activity are in God’s eyes. God has created us to work, not to sit idly by and do nothing. There are several good stories in the Bible about people who had serious problems and when they asked Jesus for help He told them to “Get up!”

In the fifth chapter of John we see one example. A man was crippled, and he lay by the pool of Bethesda for 38 years waiting for his miracle. When Jesus came to the man and asked him how long he had been in that condition, the man gave the length of time and then continued to tell Jesus how he had nobody to put him into the pool at the right time and how others always got ahead of him. Jesus told the man to Get up! Pick up your bed…and walk! (John 5:8 AMPC).

Get up and start doing whatever you can do to clean up the messes in your life. If they are marriage messes, then do your part. Don’t worry about what your spouse is not doing; just do your part and God will reward you. If you have a financial mess, then stop spending and start paying off your debts. Get an extra job for a period of time if you need to. If you are not able to do that, then ask God to show you what you can do. Remember, “If you do what you can do, then God will do what you cannot do.”

Prayer of the Day: Lord, calm my heart in life’s storms. Help me quiet my emotions, wait for Your wisdom, and trust You to guide my decisions at the right time, In Jesus name, amen.

Love Endures Forever

If I [can] speak in the tongues of men and [even] of angels, but have not love (that reasoning, intentional, spiritual devotion such as is inspired by God’s love for and in us), I am only a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 1 Corinthians 13:1 (AMPC)

Most of the things we devote our time and energy to are things that are currently passing away, things that will not last. We strive to make money, build businesses, achieve great accomplishments, be popular, own buildings, cars, and jewelry. We want to expand our minds and see the world, yet all of these things are temporal. They will all come to an end. Only love never comes to an end. An act of love goes on and endures forever.

Thankfully, God allows us to have a lasting impact when He asks us to love others. Henry Drummond says that “to love abundantly is to live abundantly, and to love forever is to live forever.” In order to “love abundantly” and “love forever,” I encourage you to first receive God’s love for you…then you can walk in love toward everyone else.

Prayer of the Day: Father, I am grateful that I can live my life in such a way as to have a lasting impact. Thank You for the power of love. Help me exercise that power and make an eternal impact by showing love to those around me today. Help me to always know what is truly important. In Jesus name, Amen

I'll Take Door Number 1

Wednesday, May 13th 2026
Acts 16:6-7
Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia, they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia. After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.
NKJV

Acts 16:10
Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.
NKJV

Philippians 3:13-14
Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
NKJV

Have you ever had God close a door that you thought was open? What was your reaction? Did you moan and complain, or did you thank God for the closed door while praying about what to do? Prayer is a good thing. Paul exhorts us to "pray without ceasing" (1 Thessalonians 5:17), but this doesn't mean to stop looking for other open doors. You can pray while taking action. What did Paul and his crew do when the Lord closed a door? Did they sit around and moan to one another about how difficult it was to be a Christian and how they wanted to minister in Bithynia, but the Lord would not let them? No, they didn't! They kept moving forward as God revealed to Paul the door that He had opened.

Although God closed some doors for Paul and his crew, God opened the doors to Macedonia in order that Lydia would be saved and the door to Europe would be opened to the Gospel. You see, sometimes the door that God closes opens the door to something awesome that He has in store. What should we do when God closes the door? Don't try to kick in the door! Don't peep through the doorknob and don't look under the door. Instead, prayerfully try another door. Take a step of faith. The rest is up to God. Press forward.

Life Lesson: Closed doors are a blessing.

Dear God,
Thank You for saving me. Thank You for allowing me to serve You in whatever way You have planned for me. Please forgive me for the times that I have tried to force open doors that You closed. Give me eyes to see the doors You want me to go through and the courage to go through them.
I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Keep the Faith

Tuesday, May 12th 2026
2 Timothy 3:1-2
You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred.
NLT

Faith can be a hard leap for many. Some have been jaded by misplaced trust and, therefore, have difficulty believing anyone, even God. While this may be a problem, the more challenging issue is misplaced faith. We all have faith in something. Our faith may be placed in ourselves, whether because of our wealth or authority, or it could be placed in someone or something completely different. Either way, faith not placed in Christ alone will only lead to ruin.

In 2 Timothy, the Apostle Paul warns his young disciples of a time when men will trust in themselves. Their misplaced faith would lead to a world filled with pride, anger, hatred, and irreverence for the things of God. Paul concludes with the warning, "Stay away from them." As Christians, we must be guided by our faith and trust in Christ. He is our Savior and King, and His Word alone guides us into eternal life. When we trust His Word, we will find a life filled with love, grace, and forgiveness. This love has the power to change the world, but this love is only available to us when we trust in the One who is ultimate love, Jesus Christ.

Life Lesson: What we choose to put our faith in will ultimately guide our decision-making, perspective, and the course of action for our lives.

Dear God,
Thank You for the love You have shown me through the death and resurrection of Jesus. Please help me to hold firm to this Truth so that my faith will continue to grow. Fill me with Your Spirit to discern those living for themselves. Please help me to minister to those who need to hear the Gospel message.
In Jesus' name. Amen.

Stir Things Up

Monday, May 11th 2026
Acts 19:23
And about that time there arose a great commotion about the Way.
NKJV

The people of Ephesus either loved Paul or hated Paul. Why? Paul had a holy restlessness, a stirring in his heart that drove him to great lengths to share the Gospel message. We must understand that Christianity is not just about getting along with everybody. All of us are individually gifted and crafted for a unique purpose, but it doesn't end there. If we do not use our gifts, it profits no one. In the same way, if our relationship with one another does not transform us, it's not much of a relationship. Ministry changes people. It puts people together in situations that are often uncomfortable and stretches us in ways that we never thought possible. It causes us to drop our masks and be honest with one another.

Hebrews 10:24
And let us consider one another to stir up love and good works,
NKJV

We are to think about one another and how we can love and encourage one another. We are to stir up (incite or provoke) love and good works in one another. This is not always going to be comfortable, and it is not always going to be received in the way that we intended. Maybe that's why the very next verse in Hebrews reads,

Hebrews 10:25
not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.
NKJV

I find it interesting that the verse telling us to stir up love and good works in one another is followed by a verse telling us to stay in fellowship. Why? Well, sometimes we can be offended by another's encouragement. We've been chugging along, thinking we're doing great, and then someone offers a word of encouragement that stirs us up. In a huff, we leave the fellowship. One of the resources God has provided for meeting our needs is other believers. When we sacrifice fellowship for comfort, we're like an antelope separated from the herd. Suddenly, it's not a question of 'if' we will be attacked, but 'when' we will be attacked.

Life Lesson: Ministry stirs things up.

Dear God,
Thank You so much for the family that You have placed around me. Please give me a burden for the lost. Give me a burden to minister to and encourage my brothers and sisters in Christ. Please take away any fear of doing this, and forgive me for the times when I have neglected to do this.
I pray this in Jesus' name. Amen.

A Faith That Lives Beyond One Day

Sunday, May 10th 2026
Proverbs 31:28
Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her:
NKJV

2 Timothy 1:5
when I call to remembrance the genuine faith that is in you, which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice, and I am persuaded is in you also.
NKJV

Mother’s Day gives us a good reason to honor mothers, grandmothers, and the faithful women who have shaped our lives. Some have taught with words. Some have taught with prayers. Some have taught by sacrifice, consistency, correction, patience, and quiet endurance. Their faith may not always have been loud, but it left a mark.

Paul saw that kind of influence in Timothy. Before Timothy became a servant of the Lord, he had a mother and grandmother whose sincere faith helped prepare his heart. That is one of the beautiful truths of godly motherhood: faithful love can outlive a single day, a single season, and even a single generation.

Mother’s Day can also be tender for those who grieve, those who feel regret, or those whose family story is complicated. But the Lord sees every tear, every prayer, every sacrifice, and every act of love offered in His name. No faithful seed planted for Christ is wasted in His hands.

Life Lesson: A godly legacy is not built in one perfect moment, but through faithful love surrendered to the Lord.

Lord,
Thank You for the mothers, grandmothers, and faithful women who have helped point others toward You. Strengthen those who are still serving, comfort those who are hurting, and help each of us leave behind a sincere faith that honors Christ.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Stand Firm in the Face of Trials

James 1:2-3
2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

One of the mistakes many Christians make is that, when trials come, they pray for their troubles to stop. I believe that, instead, we need to pray for strength and endurance; we need to ask God to make us steadfast. If the enemy is aiming his best guns at us—doing everything he can to upset our lives, ruin our businesses, tear apart our families, or otherwise steal our peace—and we stay steadfast and patient, he will be exceedingly frustrated, and ultimately defeated, because we are not cooperating with him.

Philippians 1:28 (AMPC) says: And do not [for a moment] be frightened or intimidated in anything by your opponents and adversaries, for such [constancy and fearlessness] will be a clear sign (proof and seal) to them of [their impending] destruction, but [a sure token and evidence] of your deliverance and salvation, and that from God.

This verse encourages us not to be frightened or intimidated when the devil comes against us, but to remain steadfast. As we do, we not only show the devil that he cannot handle us, we also demonstrate to the Lord that we have faith in Him. The fact that our actions affirm our trust in Him is God's signal to release His power into our situations and deliver us. I believe God wants you to hear Him telling you to stand firm and not be afraid.

Prayer of the Day: Lord, help me remain steadfast in every trial. Give me strength, patience, and courage to stand firm, trusting You to bring victory and deliverance in every situation, in Jesus name amen.
