As a young girl growing up in Hartsville South Carolina. I remember my grandmother "Granny" as my two sisters and i called her. She would always be in the kitchen cooking or baking something. If she wasn't in the kitchen she would be outside in her garden, from which she grew everything from strawberries, watermelon, squash, cabbage, and tomatoes. She even had a pear tree, a plum tree, a peach tree, and huge pecan tree. I was always in the kitchen right by her side eyes glowing because i knew that what ever she was preparing was gonna be wonderful. From her is where i grew my passion to bake or even cook for that matter. At the age of 16 i got my first job in the restaurant world working at the World Famous Bojangles Chicken. I started out as a cashier didn't care for the position that much. After about six months i went to my supervisor and told her i wanted to be behind the scene in the kitchen. She put me on the fryer dropping greasy chicken. I was in the kitchen, but that was not at all what i was expecting! I made it on the grill for a year then it was time to move on to bigger and better things. I tried to get a job at a bakery you know somewhere like winn-dixie that was the job to have for me back then. Well let me tell you i never got that dream job, but I never forgot about what i had fallen in love with as a young child. My passion and no how for baking. I moved to Decatur Ga October 31, 2003. It was a move that changed my life. My intentions was to move to Georgia with my cousin and attend real estate school. That did not happen, I sitting at home one day when a commercial for Culinary school at Le Cordon Bleu came across the television i knew at that moment what it was i wanted to do! I immediately registered and began school that fall. As my pallet grew i learned so much and so many different ingredients that i had never heard of. We created and prepared some of the best and freshest food i ever tasted! It felt almost like i was in a dream. It was a wonderful experience, but i was not satisfied. I then enrolled at The International Arts Institute of Atlanta where i took up Culinary Arts with a Concentration in baking and pastries! This is where i long to be and exactly where i needed to be. I later got a job at Cakes By Coco which was named for Atlanta's best desserts. There I was taught the business side of things. I worked very close to the owner Corey Mcdonald i told him i was his proteige, he taught me everything he knew from baking cake to making icing doing big events, drawing on cakes and really design cakes. I became Bakery Manager. I was now doing what i always knew how to do and i enjoyed it! In October 2004 I was reunited with my childhood sweetheart, close friend , and now husband of 10 yrs Jerrod Brockington whom I love dearly and share my dream with. I now know the saying ( The way to a manβs heart is through his stomach) was made for him. That fella can really put down some food A good portion of our time is spent in the kitchen Baking, cooking, creating new recipes, and trying to master different techniques.
