It’s baby goat season!

One of our very favorite local businesses is , located about 20 minutes away from BBB in Lovettsville, VA. Every spring, you can visit their baby goats for free during the week (and on the weekends with the purchase of a ticket on their website).

Our bakery staff has visited the goats every year, for three years now! It’s our early spring dose of serotonin that wakes you up from winter’s chilly days and gets us ready for the spring push.

As an extra bonus, goat cheese is back in the shop! Stop by the bakery to pick up their beautiful chèvre spreadable cheese, which I’m not ashamed to admit has been my dinner with a leftover baguette more than a few times.

Go visit them if you can! There’s a 24 hour, honor system farm stand by the goat pen that I absolutely love, where you can pick up lots of locally produced items too. So much to love!

There’s some “pay what you can” bread outside the front of the shop! The time is currently 4:27pm and I’ll do my best to take this post down once the bread has been claimed. Come, grab a loaf or three, pay what you can (or nothing! Doesn’t matter to us, as long as the bread goes into someone’s hands that needs it).

Easter preorders are open!

Hop on over to Bolivarbread.com and place your orders for Easter- it’s sneaking up on us! We have a great array of items this year, from scones and hot cross buns for brunch to dinner rolls for all of those ham sandwiches you know you’ll be eating.

All orders this year must be placed on the website- we are doing this in an attempt to streamline this process and make as many people happy as possible.

Orders should be in by Wednesday March 27, and pickups are Saturday March 30!

Look what’s being dropped off at Bolivar Bread Bakery! She’ll have peanut butter eggs and Bunny Bait.

The peanut butter eggs are 1/4 pound and stuff with peanut butter and covered in semi sweet chocolate. If you’re a peanut butter fan these are for you!

The bunny bait is Chex cereal, honey but cheerios, M&M’s, pretzels and sprinkles coated in white chocolate. It’s delish!

POTATO FOCACCIA IS BACK! Have you ever wondered what it would be like to put carbs on top of more carbs? You’re in luck, because potato focaccia has come back just in time for St. Patty’s day. We love the crisp of the herbed potatoes with the crunch of the olive oil focaccia bread, and it’s great dipped in hummus, slathered in butter, or just ripped straight from the loaf (my favorite). Abigail’s Restaurant Week special: Lavender Earl Grey Tiramisu!

As we move through restaurant week here in Jefferson County, we’re giving each of our bakers the reins to make anything they want as a special for the day- it can be something that they have been wanting to try, a family favorite, or something that just makes them happy!

Today’s special is brought to you by Abigail, whose love of tiramisu goes to another level. She’s not a big fan of coffee, but she loves tea and wanted to pair her favorite drink, Earl Grey, with the floral nuance of lavender and creamy mascarpone. The lavender complements the bergamot in the tea without overpowering, and the creamy mascarpone mousse pairs well with the housemade ladyfingers. It’s dusted with purple sweet potato powder and lavender sugar, to bring a light natural purple color to her creation. She can’t wait to share it with you!

It’s soda bread season! This is my grandmothers recipe, full of currants and accented with caraway seeds. It’s a crumbly bread, kind of in line with a scone, but not as sweet. But a little sweet? And it’s leavened with buttermilk and baking soda, not yeast or sourdough. So is it a bread at all? It’s one of those things you have to taste yourself and decide.
