I couldn’t let Hispanic Heritage Month go by without bringing a little piece of my culture into the kitchen! This week’s menu is inspired by the flavors and treats I grew up loving, featuring Puerto Rican favorites made with love and a little Kern & Crumb twist.
From soft, sweet pan sobao to crusty pan de agua, my favorite panetela, and mantecadito cookies, we’re bringing a little sabor boricua to your table.
Whether these treats remind you of home or you’re trying them for the first time, there’s a little something here for everyone.

Of course we also have our classics included in the menu!

A video in Spanish explaining my journey serves as the perfect reminder that pre orders celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month close tomorrow!!

Empecé con un pequeño bake stand, me lo cerraron, tuve que pivotear a pre-orders y terminé saliendo en las noticias, el periódico y hablando frente al City Council. 😅 Y todo porque quería vender pan en mi vecindario.

Mi gente, qué viaje ha sido esto! Y todavía falta.

This is so unreal! I’m so grateful for The Virginian-Pilot reaching out and wanting to cover our story. The amount of love and support cottage bakers have gotten over the past couple of weeks has been incredible! Thank you!!

Sooooo… we’re in the newspaper. 😂

What started as me baking bread in my kitchen and putting a little bake stand out for my neighbors has turned into petitions, City Council meetings, news interviews, and now this.

If you would’ve told me when I started Kern & Crumb that I’d be having conversations about local cottage food laws and how Hampton regulates small home businesses, I probably would’ve laughed.

But here we are.

This has never been about wanting to turn my house into a storefront or do whatever I want with no rules. I actually want the rules. I just want rules that make sense for small cottage businesses and families like mine.

I’m really proud of how far this little bakery has come, and I’m even more grateful for everyone who has supported me, signed the petition, shared our story, or simply bought a loaf of bread!

For roughly eight Saturdays between 9 a.m. and noon, a Hampton baker sold out of baked goods she sold out of her home. Then she received a note on her door from the city Community Development Department telling her to cease operations. (Link in comments)

We’re bringing Kern & Crumb Bakehouse back to the neighborhood this Saturday, October 10th for the Michael Woods Community Yard Sale!

I’ll be loading up the stand with all the baked goodies you’ve been missing, so come shop the yard sale, grab a treat, and say hi!

Because my focus will be on stocking the stand, I’m also limiting pre-orders to just 5 spots this week. Once those 5 are claimed, that’s it! Pre-orders open at 11am!

Come early… because you already know the good stuff won’t last!
