Planting Fruit Trees In Fall

Fall is a great time to plant fruit trees, especially before a rain like we're expecting this weekend and next week. We've got figs, sour cherries, blackberries, and pecans. We're open this afternoon until 5:30 pm and tomorrow from 9 a.m. to noon. Ya'll come by!

🍎Fresh Fuji Apples!

Have you tired these yet?

I was told once that most apples that you buy in the grocery store are last year's harvest. They are sprayed to death with chemicals and then sealed with wax to preserve shelf life.
Gross.

We have Fujis available that were harvested in the last month and brought here from Michigan. They are minimally processed and can be kept in cold storage for months! They are the best apple for preserving, baking and fresh eating.

We still have plenty for you! If youre not sure you can sample one before you buy!

Today, we planted two very small Dyehouse cherry root sprouts, hoping to bring this old heritage tart cherry variety back to local Alabama homesteads. If you had a grandmother or great-grandmother with a cherry tree who made cherry pies, she likely used Dyehouse, Montmorency, or Early Richmond cherries. My research suggests Dyehouse cherries were mainly propagated from rootsprouts because they are difficult to graft. They naturally form thickets of trees connected underground by their root system, much like our native Chickasaw plums. Watercolor photo published in 1915.
