Post-Op Update – Day 3

I am happy to report that today I feel 99% better! ❤️

My surgery was performed through the front of my neck. The day after surgery was definitely the hardest. My esophagus was incredibly painful—it honestly felt like I had swallowed shards of glass. 😢 Thankfully, that has improved dramatically, and today I feel so much better.

I still have a little tingling in my left index finger, but every other symptom caused by the bulging discs pressing on my nerves is gone! I haven’t needed to take any of the prescribed pain medication since Wednesday afternoon, which feels like a huge milestone.

I came home with a soft cervical collar to wear as needed. I wear it while sleeping, riding in a vehicle, and anytime I need a reminder to follow my restrictions. I’m on a 10-pound lifting restriction, no excessive bending, and no repetitive movements. My first follow-up appointment is in one month.

Another big positive—I have officially quit smoking (with a little help from Chantix 😉). This was something I knew I needed to do, and there was no better time than now. I’m proud to be taking this step toward a healthier future.

I also want to give a huge shout-out to my incredible neurosurgeon, Dr. Broadway, and the amazing staff at Northern Neurosurgery and the Center for Special Surgery. Their care, kindness, and professionalism have been outstanding, and I am so grateful to have been in such excellent hands.

I also need to thank my husband, Brad, for all his help during this ordeal. He has been very helpful and makes sure I am following the “rules” post surgery 😁

Recovery continues, but I’m feeling incredibly hopeful and thankful today. ❤️☺️

It’s Surgery Day! 💙

I’m so thankful this day has finally arrived. I need to be at the surgery center by 6:00 a.m., and if everything goes as planned, I should be heading home around 1:00 p.m.

Thank you all for your prayers, encouragement, and support throughout this journey. I truly appreciate every one of you. I’ll post an update when I’m able.

Hello everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful 4th of July and are enjoying summer. I am hanging in there. I did not get a call for early surgery but that is ok. It’s still set for 7/21 so I know relief is in the near future.
I hosted a Pampered Chef Party this past week and it closes tonight at 11:59 pm CST. If anyone wants or needs something please click on the link below. Thanks and have a fantastic weekend!!

SURGERY IS SCHEDULED! 🙌

I officially have a surgery date of July 21st! Even better, my nurse said there is a VERY GOOD CHANCE I’ll get an earlier date if there’s a cancellation, so I’m keeping my phone close and hoping for that call! 🤞

My neurosurgeon will be performing a disc replacement at C5-C6 and C6-C7. Following surgery, I’ll have a 10-pound lifting restriction for the first 3 months, so I’ll need to keep my bakery closed during my recovery.❤️‍🩹

Thank you all for your continued prayers, support, and patience throughout this journey. Your kindness has meant more than you know. ❤️

I’ll continue to post updates along the way, and I can’t wait for the day I’m fully healed and able to start taking orders again. I truly appreciate each and every one of you!

I meet with my neurosurgeon 👨‍⚕️ today. Unfortunately, my symptoms—including pain, burning, tingling, and numbness—continue to get worse. 😢

I would greatly appreciate your thoughts and prayers that, if surgery is needed (which is highly likely) it can be scheduled sooner rather than later.

I’ll post an update after my appointment. Thank you all for your continued support—it truly means so much to me. ❤️

Health & Business Update:

I wanted to give everyone an update on what’s been going on.

Over the past month, I’ve been dealing with significant pain in my neck, shoulder, left arm, and hand. Yesterday morning, I ended up in the ER where I had an MRI. The results showed a large disc extrusion in my cervical spine. Unlike a disc bulge, where the outer wall of the disc is stretched but remains intact, an extrusion means the outer wall has torn and disc material has pushed through. The material is still attached to the disc but has broken free from its normal position, causing pressure on nearby nerves.

I have been referred to Neurosurgery and am scheduled for a consultation on July 6th to discuss treatment options and next steps.

Unfortunately, this means Nurse with a Mixer will be on hold longer than I had originally anticipated. As much as I miss baking and serving my customers, my focus right now needs to be on healing and getting my health back on track.

I truly appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and support during this time. Your kind messages, prayers, and well wishes have meant so much to me. I will continue to provide updates as I learn more and will let everyone know when I am able to return to baking.

Thank you for sticking with me through this unexpected chapter. ❤️

6/15/26 Doctor ordered an MRI. Now waiting for insurance to authorize it so it can get scheduled. 😩
❤️ A little life update from Nurse with a Mixer ❤️

I am currently temporarily closed due to an injury and wanted to keep everyone updated. For the past month, I have been dealing with left shoulder blade pain, and a few weeks ago I started experiencing tingling down my arm and into my pinky finger.

I have been working with my chiropractor and massage therapist over the past couple of weeks, but unfortunately, I have had minimal improvement. After seeing them both again today, they recommended that I follow up with my primary care provider for further evaluation, including possible X-rays and an MRI. They believe it could be a pinched nerve in my neck or possibly another injury that needs further investigation.

I’m not exactly sure what caused it (I’m just going to blame getting older 😉), but I’m hoping to get some answers and a plan for recovery soon.

I have reached out to those with existing orders, and I have also added a temporary closure notice to my website. Thank you all for your patience, understanding, and continued support of my small business. ❤️

I will keep you updated as I know more. I appreciate all of you more than you know!
