Our big man Lucas turned 20 years old yesterday! I didn’t get to post about his birthday on our little business page here because in the middle of doing all the things that make him happy, some of which went very well, there were also several times of the day that did not go well.
He has always been prone to lash out or exhibit self harming behavior when frustrated about anything as a largely non verbal person. But once he reached adulthood, things escalated heavily.
We just moved to SC this summer and he is scheduled for many appointments with new medical providers that I hope will help him.
He is sporting his new Mohawk cut because of the missing hair he has from hitting himself repeatedly on the head with his hand when he is angry. It looks pretty good on him!
Anyway, I hear it is Disability Employment Awareness Month and it just so happens that we are here to raise money for a cafe where we want to hire people with various disabilities and needs to work!
My Lucas needs a miracle to be able to work a job, but I believe his little brother Liam will be in the kitchen or taking orders independently one day. We want to bring many friends along for the ride as one small way to help families like ours with big needs.
