Okay, but can we talk about this week's sweet rolls for a second? 👀🍂

I couldn't decide which flavors I wanted to put on the menu this week... so naturally, I went with four. 😂

Introducing the Painted October Sweet Roll Flight!

Four soft, fluffy sweet rolls, each with its own filling, frosting and little finishing touch.

Classic Cinnamon: Brown sugar cinnamon filling with creamy vanilla frosting.

Pumpkin Praline: Warm pumpkin spice filling, vanilla frosting and buttery pecan praline topping.

Honey Cinnamon: Brown sugar cinnamon filling, vanilla frosting and a golden honey drizzle.

Cherry Almond: Tart cherry filling, almond vanilla frosting and toasted sliced almonds.

📖 Chapter 26: Painted October 🍂🖤

If you know me, you know autumn has my whole heart.

The trees trading their summer greens for shades of amber, copper, crimson and gold. Crisp mornings, cozy sweaters, pumpkins on porches, and that wonderful smell of woodsmoke drifting through the evening air.

And those October sunsets. 😍

The sun glowing like an ember behind the trees, while the sky comes alive in sweeping shades of fiery orange, crimson, rose and violet. As though someone had taken a paintbrush and swept those colors across the evening sky.

There's something so beautiful about a season that gives us its brightest colors just as the world begins to slow down.

Welcome to Chapter 26: Painted October. 🖤

This week's menu is inspired by the warmth, colors and comforts of my favorite season!

Our Painted October Sweet Roll Flight brings together four autumn flavors: Classic Cinnamon, Pumpkin Praline, Honey Cinnamon and Cherry Almond.

📖 Chapter 25: October After Dark 🖤

This Chapter is arriving a little later than usual tonight.

We spent the weekend focused on family, and instead of rushing to get everything posted at our normal time, I let The Mourning Oven stay quiet for a couple of days.

But the house is settling down, Sunday night is here, and I am very ready to show you what I’ve been putting together for our first full week of October.

Welcome to Chapter 25: October After Dark. 🖤

October always feels a little different once the sun goes down.

The evenings are getting darker earlier. The air finally has that cool edge to it. Porch lights glow a little warmer, Halloween decorations start appearing in windows and yards, and suddenly a cup of coffee and something warm from the oven sounds even better than it did a few weeks ago.

This Chapter leans right into that side of October.

Warm spice. Dark berries. Coffee and chocolate. Toasted pecans. Pumpkin. Roasted garlic and rosemary. All the deeper, cozier flavors that feel right at home once those October evenings start getting longer.

A few things waiting inside Chapter 25...

Pumpkin Praline Sweet Rolls are filled with warmly spiced pumpkin and topped with brown sugar pecan praline crumble and vanilla frosting.

Blackberry Chai Hand Pies bring together tart blackberry and warm chai spice, while Brown Sugar Chai Scones carry those same cozy spices into the breakfast side of the menu.

And because coffee and October just belong together, Maple Latte Scones are back alongside brand new Chocolate Espresso Muffins.

The Bakery Case gets Brown Sugar Maple Cookies, Pecan Brownie Bites and Pecan Pie Cupcakes, and Pumpkin Praline makes another appearance over in the Cheesecake Parlor.

There’s plenty on the savory side too, including Roasted Garlic Rosemary Sourdough and Buffalo Chicken Pizza Pockets.

I’ll have the full Chapter 25 menu graphic ready to share tomorrow, but orders are officially open tonight.

A little apple pie inspiration for your Monday. 🍎🖤

This beauty came out of my oven with a golden, sugar-crusted top and little pastry leaves, and honestly, it feels right at home with this week's Chapter.

While I'm not offering full apple pies on the menu this week, I am bringing some of those cozy orchard flavors into smaller treats you can enjoy without having to commit to an entire pie. 😂

Chapter 24: The Orchard has Caramel Apple Hand Pies, Caramel Apple Cupcakes with caramel buttercream, and Caramel Apple Cheesecake Cups layered with cinnamon-spiced apples and salted caramel.

Plus, a few returning favorites from September Gold that I couldn't bear to leave behind.

📖 Chapter 24: The Orchard

There’s something about that first trip to the orchard that makes autumn feel official.

The drive out past fields that have already been harvested, with others still waiting their turn. Roadside stands filling up with pumpkins, mums and gourds. That little chill in the morning air that somehow disappears by the time afternoon rolls around.

And then you arrive.

Rows of apple trees stretching into the distance. Gravel crunching beneath your feet, little wagons being pulled along the paths, and baskets slowly filling with apples.

Somewhere nearby, there’s warm c***r, fresh donuts, and the unmistakable smell of cinnamon.

Welcome to Chapter 24: The Orchard. 🖤

And goodness, am I happy to be back baking for you guys this week!

After the order link issue with September Gold, I had every intention of giving Chapter 23 another week. Unfortunately, our family schedule had other plans, and we never got to give that menu its proper second chance.

But I wasn't ready to let all those goodies go just yet. So I brought some of my favorite flavors from September Gold along with us into The Orchard!

And this Chapter happens to be a little extra special because it's my birthday week! 🥳

One of my favorite birthday traditions is taking the kids out to the orchard for apple picking and all the fun fall activities. And obviously, no orchard trip is complete without grabbing a caramel apple and some apple spice donuts before we head home. 😂

So this year, I wanted to bring a little of that birthday tradition into The Mourning Oven and share it with you guys.

A menu full of orchard-inspired treats, a few favorites that deserved another chance, and some things I've just been really excited to bake.

A few things waiting inside this Chapter...

Caramel Apple Cupcakes are bringing soft spiced apple cake, caramel buttercream and a caramel drizzle to the Bakery Case, while Caramel Apple Cheesecake Cups are layered with cinnamon-spiced apples, buttery graham cracker crumble and salted caramel.

Brown Butter Snickerdoodles and Oatmeal Fudge Brownie Bites are getting their second chance after our interrupted September Gold Chapter. Because those buttery cinnamon sugar cookies and fudgy brownies layered with brown sugar oatmeal crumble deserved another week on the menu!

And of course, personal size Hoosier Sugar Cream Pies are making an appearance too. A little taste of home, and a very good excuse to have pie. 🖤

There are plenty of other sweet and savory favorites tucked into the full menu, so be sure to take a peek!

I'm so excited to get back into the kitchen this week. I've missed baking for you guys, and getting to share a little piece of one of my favorite birthday traditions makes this Chapter feel even sweeter.

Okay, I want to test an idea with you guys. 👀🖤

I’ve been thinking about adding a little Mourning Oven Porch Stand option alongside our regular weekly Chapters.

Basically, on certain days I’d put out a limited amount of freshly baked extras on the porch. No preorder needed. You’d just stop by, see what’s available, grab what you want and pay when you pick it up.

Think cookies, brownies, muffins, scones, pretzel bites, maybe a few sourdough loaves or whatever else makes its way onto the table that day. The selection would change, quantities would be limited, and once something was gone, it was gone.

Our regular Chapter preorders wouldn’t be going anywhere. This would just be another option for those of you who decide at 2 PM that actually, yes, you do need a giant cookie in your life. 😂

But here’s the important part: would you actually use it?

I’d obviously need enough interest for it to make sense financially to bake specifically for a same day stand and keep offering it regularly. So I’m genuinely curious whether this is something you guys would stop by and shop from, not just whether it sounds like a fun idea.

And if you would, what would you be most likely to grab? Cookies? Sourdough? Pretzel bites? Muffins and scones? Brownies? A little bit of everything? 👀

Nothing official yet. I’m just testing the waters and seeing if this is something worth trying. Especially during weeks that life may interfere with pickup day scheduling. 🖤
