Many of the images of space that we see are processed so that we can “see” them even though the light they are emitting is invisible to our eyes. This image was taken by the Cassini spacecraft using just visible light. Here you can see the shadow of Saturn cutting across its rings. I love the vibrant processed images but these dark quiet images can be just as fascinating.

Join us on our final donut day on September 10!

you know that Jupiter has rings as well? New images from the Webb telescope gave us some clarity about the faint almost wispy rings circling Jupiter.

Our Jupiter donut focuses on the streaky nature of the atmosphere instead of the rings. This image also highlights the giant spot. The processing of this image is designed to help us understand the elevation of elements in the atmosphere and shows that the giant spot has a very high elevation and reflects more sunlight than the surrounding clouds.

Earlier this month, half of the Galaxy Team took some time to do a little stargazing. Cherry Springs State Park is a certified dark sky preserve in Pennsylvania and has some of the darkest skies on the east coast. This visit was during the full moon which made it almost feel like daylight at midnight. We also got to see Jupiter rise each night. Here is a pic of Jupiter on the horizon and one of the moon and some clouds. Definitely a trip worth considering!

ANNOUNCEMENT:
Hello Galaxy Donut Universe! We have some important news to share.

Our last regular donut day will be September 10.

We started Galaxy Donuts to bring smiles and joy to our community and to have an excuse to spend quality time together. We didn’t do this for the money but we did design our business to be self-sustainable. With the rising cost of all our supplies, the only way to maintain any profit is to increase our volume by a great deal. Unfortunately our “real” jobs and family lives just can’t accommodate that high volume.

We have loved every minute of our time turning Galaxy Donuts into reality. We have loved sharing special days and sweet moments with so many of you. We can’t express how grateful we are for what you all have given us.

Thank you.

Orders are now open for September 10 at www.galaxydonuts.space

We will fire up the ovens for special orders for the foreseeable future so please contact us for your special occasions!

The Webb Telescope offered this image of Stephan's Quintet, a tight group of five galaxies in the constellation Pegasus. These galaxies were one of the first compact group ever discovered and someday will likely merge. I highly recommend finding this image on the biggest monitor you have, zooming in, and getting lost in the stars for a moment.

And then go order donuts before we close!

This image came across our feed this week as we were researching inspiration for new flavors. And we liked the donut-ness you can see here. This is an infrared image of Orion made by the Hershel Observatory. The lighter areas are illuminated by the glow of recently created stars while the red swath is made up of colder denser dust clouds.
