It’s been awhile! I’m back in Nevada County and will hopefully be grounded here for a minute. So glad to finally be home with my human and furry family!
Many of you are probably wondering about the business and with some reluctance I will have to close up shop. My initial dream was to sell the extra Asian treats I would make for myself for a little change (and mostly to meet other people who love eating like I do and sharing my extra treats so they don’t go to waste) but needing to pay quite a sum for a yearly license to run a mini business isn’t the route I initially intended for Gold Lantern. Back in Malaysia, it was easy to obtain a low cost license and sell from your home. My aunties and my mother’s friends did it so I naively thought I could do the same here. I’m happy I tried though and the people at the county’s environmental health department were very knowledgeable and helpful when it came to getting licensed.
So this is where my journey ends for Gold Lantern and I am starting to freelance again. If anyone needs any local design work I’m happy to discuss! I plan on still keeping this IG account for my personal baking and maybe still keep in touch with those of you who would like my extra treats every now and then. Will miss you all dearly and hopefully see you around town. Please say hi!
*Mooncake season is coming up! just made a huge batch of these mooncakes that I’m bringing down to the Bay Area for family. I reduced the sugar and oil and of course it’s filled with homemade lotus paste with zero preservatives 😉
