We are grateful for Todd Starnes reaching out to us about what we are doing here at the bakery via our Nuclear Family celebration!

Yesterday I was asked to be on both his radio show, the Todd Starnes Show, and his televised NewsMax show. As you can tell from the fact that I'm fidgeting more than a 5 year old in a dentist chair, I was not aware that the video of this would be put out there. Far less did we anticipate that our little small-town bakery's Nuclear Family celebration would somehow gain the kind of national attention it has.

We praise God for showing His goodness and grace to us through the thousands of voices that have reached out with words of support and encouragement. While the negative reactions are still coming in, our hearts are bursting with the love we have received from across the nation and even around the world!

An aside: the word "grift" gets used a lot, regarding the merch sales - for the sake of our clientele and friends, we want to reassure you that our primary sales margin is and always has been donuts, and our primary goal with the merch is and always has been to promote good living, God's plan, and gospel truth. We're not here to skim the wallets of political factions, but we are here to glorify God in the public square, and we're happy to use shirts and hats to make His truth known.

As we reach week 3 of celebrating God’s beautiful plan for human thriving through the Nuclear Family, we would like to highlight the central role parents play in shaping who we are.

Why is this issue pivotal to promoting the future good of our community—and by extension, our nation? We may have survived as a nation for 250 years, but there is no guarantee of our future, particularly if we abandon first principles.

One of the clearly-repeated commandments in both the Old and New Testaments, including by Christ during His time on earth, is: “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.” (Ephesians 6:2-3)

From the seemingly benign, yet pervasive mockery of those out-of-touch parents depicted in popular media to the incredibly painful phenomena of estrangement which breaks the hearts of countless parents, we have a crisis in our land.

It may be apparent that these remarks spring from our faith as conservative Christians. And make no mistake, Christians, our God cares so much about the central role parents have in shaping the future of their children that there is an entire book in the Bible dedicated to it: the book of Proverbs.

However, lest this seem like a merely Christian concern: with Father’s Day and the 4th of July just around the corner, it is worth mentioning that the Latin word for father is “pater”, from which we derive our English word “patriot”.

“Patriotism” is commonly understood as the love of one’s country, but the real meaning behind patriotism is a love of your father’s land. Which means, where there is no “pater” honor, there will be no true patriotism in America.

Join us in celebrating our parents, and more specifically this weekend: fathers!

The drive-through is OPEN, in case you missed it, and our AC is WORKING, and the DONUTS are DELICIOUS, and the COFFEE is EXCELLENT, and maybe if you emphasize all the POSITIVE words in the Facebook post people will pay more attention to those?
