Hi friends! 👋🏼 If you’re new around here, I thought it was probably time to reintroduce myself and the little family behind Fresh Baked Bread Co. 🤎
I’m Kelly, and this is my husband, Tim and our two girls, Blakely and Mimi. We live on our farm in Monroe county, Indiana, where life is usually a beautiful combination of family, animals, princess dresses, muddy boots, busy schedules, and a whole lot of homemade food. 🐄🐐🐶
But a few years ago, my life looked very different.
In 2022, I was diagnosed with melanoma. In 2023, I learned that it had returned and I was diagnosed with Stage 3 melanoma. I went through surgery, had 19 lymph nodes removed, and completed 26 rounds of cancer treatment.
While I’m incredibly grateful to be here, cancer treatment changed my life in ways I never could have anticipated.
My diabetes diagnosis was one of those changes. I developed medically induced Type 1 diabetes as a result of my treatment, and I’ve also experienced many other life-altering side effects that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
Some of those effects have meant, and continue to mean, surgeries, procedures, appointments, recovery periods, and a lot of uncertainty about what the next chapter will look like.
Honestly, that’s a huge part of why Fresh Baked Bread Co. means so much to me.
I started baking during one of the hardest seasons of my life. At first, it was simply something that brought me joy and gave me something to focus on outside of appointments and everything else happening in my life… eventually, that little hobby became a business and this business has given me something I desperately needed: flexibility.
Flexibility to work around appointments. Flexibility when my body isn’t cooperating. Flexibility when I have surgery or need time to recover. Flexibility to be home with my girls. And flexibility to build something of my own while navigating a life that doesn’t always go according to plan.
Today, I bake sourdough bread and all kinds of sourdough goodies using organic ingredients — from classic loaves and bagels to cookies, muffins, scones and seasonal favorites.
That same journey of becoming more intentional about what we put into our bodies eventually led us to something else very close to home — Vitalis Beef. 🐄🤎 We have always raised beef, but after lots of research we now raise grass-fed, grass-finished beef right here on our farm, with the same mindset that goes into everything I bake: knowing where our food comes from and being able to feel good about what we’re feeding our family. What started as a desire to know more about the food on our own table has grown into something we’re excited to share with other families, too. So while Fresh Baked Bread Co. is my little corner of the farm, Vitalis Beef is another piece of our family’s story and being rooted in good food, intentional living, and knowing exactly where it comes from.
What started in my kitchen during one of the hardest chapters of my life has become something I’m incredibly proud of and I truly don’t take it for granted.
So if you’re new here, welcome! 🤎 You’ll see a little bit of everything around here.. bread, baking, our farm, our family, behind-the-scenes chaos, and probably some real-life moments that aren’t always pretty or perfect.
Most importantly, you’ll see a business that was born out of a difficult season and has given me the freedom to create a life that works for my family and for the life I have now.
