This Mother's Day weekend, people will celebrate mothers with flowers, brunches, cards, and kind words. But there are moments like this, that are a brutal reminder of what motherhood truly looks like at its deepest core.
Most of you have heard that a woman, Kelly, was shot several times while doing the most instinctive, selfless thing a parent can do. Protecting her babies. Kelly was grocery shopping with her four kids when senseless violence shattered countless lives in seconds. Even after being severely injured, her focus was still getting every one of her children to safety before stopping to seek help for herself. That's not just survival. That's motherhood in its rawest, fiercest form.

It is infuriating that families can't even buy groceries without fear, and heartbreaking that her children had to witness this kind of terror. We have read updates that she faces multiple surgeries and a long recovery. The last thing her family should be carrying is the weight of medical bills and lost income. If you can donate, share, or simply help this family feel seen and supported right now, please do. Our community has to be louder than the violence that tried to break it.

We do not know you personally, Kelly, but we do know without a doubt, you are strong, brave, and exactly who you were born to be. Mom.

Many of you have met Charlie, a very beloved customer of ours. Also known, lovingly, as “Charlie Murphy,” “Charles Murphason,” and “Charlie Boy.”
977 visits since 2019, walking to and from the shop, rain or shine, for his coffee and cream cheese danish.

We are heartbroken to say goodbye to our dear friend, but so grateful he was part of our daily routine and presence here at BMB.

He’ll always have a place here ❤️ We’ll miss you, Charlie! 🕊️
