Zachary Lane Plane Rescue Gang

I found the Funner spirit in some local kids and thought it needed to be shared.

Last week I was flying my R/C plane near Zachary Lane Elem and lost radio control of plane. Four local kids were watching when it lodged a top a 50ft tree. Despite it not being their problem, they started sizing things up while I debated the lack of safe options & difficulty at that height. Accepting the loss, I thanked them for trying to help. I said if by chance it comes down safely, I own Funner Brothers and there’s donuts as an award!”
There eyes widened and one quickly took my # to contact me.

Next evening, I get a text that says “so close, we almost had it” with a picture of this extension device they fashioned out what appeared to be PVC pipe, ski poles, & duct tape. Blown away that these kids were actually trying to get this down using anything they can get their hands on to make it happen. I responded, thanks for trying.

Next afternoon, I get a text with a pic of the plane on the grass. “We got it down” It was undamaged. “We can deliver it to you at Funner Brothers”. A hour later, I was loading one of the boys families up with donuts.

I’d like to thank Isaac, Seva, Truman, & Owen. I couldn’t be more impressed with the determination, creativity and the persistence you demonstrated. I also want to also thank the parents that allowed these kids to ransack their garages for components to assemble this behemoth rescue pole.
