Never a dull moment!!
So about 9am today on my way to deliver the Candyland cake, a wild turkey ran out in front of me. Having a cake on board, I couldn't break as quickly as usual, but I tried to slow down & honked. She tried to fly past just as I got to her, but didn't have quite enough lift to clear the passenger side of the windshield, taking my wiper & window trim with her! I delivered the cake & had several other errands to do today. About 5pm I decided to go the 6 miles or so back to see if I could find the trim (around $70 to replace!). I found a dead turkey near where it happened & hubby & I started looking. A ways up the road I found the van pieces. Then I heard something flapping in the deep ditch beside me. You guessed it... the turkey!! Injured (possibly a broken leg), but alive, sitting in the ditch of water, & probably wondering what the heck happened 8 hours ago!! My wonderful hubby climbed down & got her out. She didn't struggle a whole lot. I called The Ark Animal Rescue (about 20 min. away) & was told they could take her if I could get her there. So, off we went with a stinky, wet, ditch water, turkey in the back cargo section of the same van that put her there this morning! Hopefully she'll be able to be rehabbed & released when she heals.
