Talk about a blessing in disguise! 🍩 114+ years of local history and six generations of incredible scratch-made treats. I’m grabbing the glazed donut first—what are you reaching for?
Getting fired started this one. Wilhelm Resch and his uncle Frank, German immigrants learning the trade at a Columbus bakery, were overheard talking about opening a shop of their own. The owner let them go that day. By 1912 they had scraped together enough to build their own place on the east side, and six generations have been baking here since, through two world wars, the Depression, and the 1918 flu.
From 1962 until October 2025 the bakery sat on East Livingston Avenue, then the whole operation moved to a bigger Gahanna building with four fryers instead of two. Recipes and menu carried over unchanged. About 150 dozen glazed donuts go out daily, alongside wedding and birthday cakes, cookies, pies, breads, and pretzels, all scratch made. Take a number at the counter and study the case while you wait.
