I am Goddess of the Grill and Skillet. 😆 No, but really! Roasted garden root veggies, turnip greens, and beer marinated and basted venison chops grilled with green hickory twigs for a mouthwatering aroma and flavor.

Fresh sage, thyme, a pinch of cayenne, and a homegrown turnip, greens and root, feature in this good-for-what-ails-you chicken bone broth soup. It was surprisingly tasty and so soothing.

Plenty of produce from the garden, a big pot of venison chili with garden peppers, and chicken bone broth simmering in the instant pot. I have a feeling that the week is off to a good start!

Taking the time to prepare a simple, healthy meal is soul medicine after a stressful week. After? No. More like a blanket to cover the past present in timefree reality. Time, really, is but a treaty between stars. An illusion of control. A conspiracy of civilization. The wilding of our minds from it is our work. To witness one moment in astonishment, to taste the earth, and to love it, that is the work of the eternal. Friends, poetry, and a thrush in a tree are a few of the time unfettered eternities I live into in order receive this gift of liberation. Going deep, deeper still, into the quiet music of rain on roof, to be restored and ready for the next storm. Next? No. The storms are always, but so is the shelter.

Daughter #2: What's for dinner?
Me: Hoppin' John
D: What's that?
Me: Well I heard about it on
D: Oh no not what you were listening to on the radio on the way to school!
Me: Yeah
D: (pauses as she realizes the irony) Hey we just repeated what was on the radio when her daughter asked what there was to eat.

First of the fresh pink eye purple hull cowpeas. Planted as a nitrogen fixing cover crop after the spring potatoes. Easy to grow and delicious. And two of my kids asked me if they could help shell!
