Now that we are seeing so many new followers, let’s chat…
Our little venture started on May 2nd of this year which means we are closing in on 4 months of this journey! WOW! It feels like yesterday and years all at once!!! Every day we gain new followers, but we’ve managed to keep so many of you since day 1. Thank you for that! It means so much to us to bring you products that come from our hearts to your home.
With Fall approaching you will start to see us introducing new flavors and products, but I want to share with you some of our limitations. As a home bakery, or Cottage Bakery, NYS prohibits us from selling anything with vegetables…that means no pumpkin bread. We can also only use high acid fruits so while we can’t do some things we can absolutely still do others!!! We plan to start making pies, both full size as well as hand pies and add to our list of flavors for sweet breads and muffins too! We know that taking pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread off of our list of things we can put on your table really stinks! Trust me, we don’t like it either but we have plenty of other flavors we are excited about. And while I’m dishing out the bad news, home bakers can’t provide cream pies, cream filling or cheesecakes. 😩
Here at Creative Crumb, we don’t want to be a flash in the pan. We have goals and a game plan. Eventually, our dream is to become commercially licensed, we aren’t sure exactly how that looks right now but we do know we need to save some money to get there so it will be a couple of years. We also know that there are bakers out there that cave to the pressure and make these “ forbidden items” anyways. We don’t judge, we’re all out here, trying to make a living and trying to provide our customers with exactly what they’re looking for. Now don’t immediately assume that someone who sells you a pumpkin pie is not following the rules because they may just be commercially licensed. At the end of the day, and after a lot of debating, we have decided that our long-term goal is more important than bending the rules so we will be sticking to the things we can provide you and trying to imagine up new flavor combinations to put a whole new twist on holiday baking. If you’re ever interested in checking out these guidelines, just go to the New York State website and search for home processing guidelines.
As Fall approaches we will begin to introduce new cookie bar flavors (did you try our ginger pear recently? we call it Pear-fectly spiced!), a list of pie flavors, tasty muffins, sweet breads and hopefully some baked donuts and even danish! We’ve already let it slip than Cinnamon Rolls are coming very soon and we will be featuring all kinds of specialty flavors! Don’t forget the breads and rolls! We don’t make sour dough (sorry 😞) but we make regular yeast breads and rolls.
As the weather turns colder the Crumb Cottage will reduce hours and days we are open BUT we will still be cranking out all we can! We will move on to pre-orders (don’t forget…we deliver) and continue pop ups at craft shows and vendor events. We offer our cookie bars and cookie cakes year round and soon you will be seeing more of our cookie platters complete with our Christmas Cookie Collection! You can order muffins, bagels, English muffins and so much more individually or by the tray for any events!
For now, our hours remain the same and I am attaching them. When the time comes to cut back we will let everyone know. We hope everyone continues to enjoy the rest of summer…it’s not over just yet!
We’ll see you…at The Cottage ♥️
