The city operates under a Commission-Manager style of government. The elected Mayor and four Commissioners establish city laws and policies, while the City Manager is hired to oversee the daily operations of the municipality.
Job Summary
The City of Fulton is seeking a professional, honest, and collaborative leader to serve as the next City Manager. This role requires the ability to balance multiple responsibilities, ensuring the city remains compliant with federal, state, and local regulations while providing clear direction to all city departments.
The next City Manager will oversee an approximately $6 million city budget. The position requires a dedicated professional capable of maintaining smooth public services, fostering local economic growth, and ensuring responsible fiscal management.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
• Daily Leadership: Oversee and manage the daily operations of all city departments, ensuring staff efficiency and high-quality service for residents.
• Budget and Finances: Create and manage the annual $6 million city budget. Responsibilities include tracking spending, identifying government grants, and maintaining the city’s financial stability.
• Enforcing Laws: Implement the policies and laws enacted by the Mayor and City Commission.
• Managing Staff: Lead city employees, evaluate department heads, and recommend hiring, promotions, or disciplinary actions to the Board.
• Working with Partners: Maintain productive working relationships with Fulton County officials, state agencies, and regional boards (such as local transit and ambulance services).
• Community Connection: Serve as an accessible and helpful point of contact for residents, local business owners, and civic groups to support community prosperity.
Qualifications
• Education: A bachelor’s degree in public administration, Business, Finance, or equivalent experience is highly preferred.
• Experience: Previous experience managing a city or leading a major department in local government. Candidates should demonstrate a strong track record in budget management, infrastructure projects, and personnel leadership.
• Skills: Strong financial management skills, effective problem-solving abilities, and excellent communication. The ideal candidate is a leader who listens well and fosters collaboration.
• Knowledge: A solid understanding of city services—such as public works, police, fire, emergency medical services, and utilities—is a significant advantage.
